KATHMANDU, MAY 31 - Supreme Court Justice Rana Bahadur Bam, who was shot by an unknown gang at Sankhamul in the Capital, died while undergoing treatment at Norvic Hospital on Thursday. His bodyguard Mahesh Giri was critically injured.
Unidentified gunmen on a motorbike bike drove by Bam’s car (Ba 8 Cha 9853) nearby the crematory at UN Park and shot him and his body guard several times at around 11:05 this morning, Inspector General of Police Rabindra Pratap Shah, who reached the incident site immediately after the incident, said.
Bam was returning after offering prayers at Bangalamukhi temple. Bam, who sustained multiple bullets in the attack, and his body guard were rushed to the hospital after what appeared to be a premeditated attack.
Executive Director at Norvic Hospital, Dr. Bharat Rawat, confirmed that critically Bam succumbed to his injuries. Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai who reached the hospital to take stock of Bam's health condition informed about Bam’s death.
Bam sustained four shots in his chin, neck, chest and hand while his bodyguard Giri was also shot in his neck.
Pamphlets of a previously unknown group known as Nepalbad Party were recovered from the scene. No arrests have been made in connection with the shooting.
Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Bijay Kumar Gachhadar, Chief Justice Khila Raj Regmi also reached the hospital. Minister Gachhadar said that police has arrested the motorcycle used in the shooting but has refused to divulge further information.
Police have beefed up security at major junctions and entry points of the Valley.
Bam had been barred from hearing cases after he was charged with misconduct while releasing three notorious criminals convicted of abduction on a low bail.
Few months after their release, the same criminals abducted Dr. Bhaktaman Shrestha, of BP Koirala Memorial Cancer Hospital, Chitwan. One of the criminals had conceded that they had paid a hefty amount to bribe the judges, including Bam for their release.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai and DPM Gachhadar expressed sadness over the killing of Justice Bam and expressed their commitment to hunt down the culprits. They said they would become serious about the security of legal professionals. PM Bhattarai has directed the home minister and home secretary to initiate investigation into the incident and bring the guilty to justice.
PM has also directed the Home Ministry to beef up the security to avert such incidents in the coming days.
Probe panel formed
The Home Ministry has formed a probe panel headed by AIG Kumbar Singh Rana to look into the murder.

Funny how "they" target a person who's being investigated by CIAA but they can't touch mass murderers walking freely despite having sentenced by supreme courts. Double standard I say !

But then is it better to go after all criminals set free by a corrupt judge or go after the judge himself, so that maybe in future such criminals don't get set free?

I am really apalled by some of the comments. Frist of all we don't know if he was bhrastachari. How do you know if this could be from criminal group against who this judge may have given decision. From now on anybody can kill anybody and throw paper of brastachari. For me it is nothing but a gruesome criminal act.
If that group which shot 3 people inhumanely were really after bhrastachari then why didn't they shot prachanda, baburam for record bhrastachar made by maoist, or bijay gachadhar and co. But that will never happen.
These are criminal outfit. They are just trying to get public sympathy by branding people brastachari.

Daylight murder of Nepal Supreme Court Justice Rana Bahadur Bam: A Commentary
Maoists must have killed Justice Bam. In a criminal law case, the first and foremost element to determine is "intent" (motive, mens rea).
During the Civil War when Maoists were underground outfit, their prime enemy were Security Forces (Army, Police, Armed Police). They even managed to kill the Inspector General of Nepal police when he was jogging in the morning.
Maoists took over the government via a violent protest. Maoists removed monarchy so that no one can question or control them.
However, Maoists never could imagine that Law (the Supreme Court) would become the biggest barrier in their dream to capture state power and declare Nepal a communist nation. Since last year, after the nation plunged into anarchy, Supreme Court interfered to restore the law and order. The court time and again crushed the unlawful moves of the Maoists. Many cases against Maoists, including former prime minister and Maoist leader Babu Ram Bhattarai remain pending with the Supreme Court. After the CA was dissolved, only the Judicial Branch is active in Nepal. There is no legislative or executive branch. In order to change the outcome of the pending cases by creating fear among the Justices, Maoists must have killed Justice Bam. There is no question about it.

Nepal needs to allow its citizens to own guns so they can defend themselves.

Shame on you, MNO, who gave the rights to kill?
Then , according to your rule , the first shot should go to Puspa Kamal and so on.
