Guys- I'm wondering if an Ipad would be a good replacement for a Netbook that i currently own. I was a Macbook user in the past and had switched to a HP Netbook because of its portability, but this netbook totally sucks. It has this crappy trackpad that barely scrolls when i want.
I am not an avid software user. I mostly use computer for Youtube, webpages, skype and occasional homeworks on a word processor. Do you think i should be able to get these on a Ipad 2 and never have to use a laptop/ netbook again?
I understand the fact that an Ipad has several limitations like lack of USB port, Flash support etc, but are any users out there who bought one to replace their PC and are now regreting on buying one instead of a real laptop/netbook?

Why not Blackberry, Samsung or Motorola tablets? These offer the service that you listed IPAD doesn't have.

Ipad is not a laptop. Please don't think it can replace it.
It is only good for facebook and showing off.

I hate android. They have crappy apps so I am not interested in switching to Samsung and Motorola tablets at all.
Blackberry's Playbook seems totally gay to me (for its name and the brand itself). Wonder why they named it a "book" afterall when its meant for a play/fun device? Looks like another Ipad wannabe to me.

Althought, I've not bought an iPad, I would say you can't just live with an iPad. You do need a regular computer, for instance you need a computer to activate it/ update it etc. Also, comparing iPad to Netbooks is like comparing apples to oranges ( no puns).
While iPad may not be a replacement for a notebook/netbook, netbooks are not worth owning. Based on your usage, iPad may be a good idea as it can do all those things you've listed. Since you have used Macbook in the past, have you considered Macbook Air ?

OS 5 is coming cord-less, so i have a feeling the connectivity issue wont be a pain in the a$$ anymore and that should resolve the USB issue too.
As a matter of fact, i just want an ultra- portable device that is strong enough to handle my needs (primarily the internet usage). I need no 100 GB harddrive or 5 GB RAM. Thats why i'm considering tablets vs netbooks/laptops.

i used to like an ipad because of its popilularity and app store, since i have ipod touch and have used some iphones too. but now i am using android tablet and i am overwhelmed by android . its not great its freaking awesome.
i have used all blackberry devices , windows phone , ios and now i am on android. and on all of them winner is android for me. there are bunches of features on OS itself, not like blackberry and iOS you have to depend on apps to do somthing . u can use microsoft files, have some external memory, install widgets and different apps. pull down menu barand the most i like is file explorer which we cant even think on ios.
try android before u hate it.

I have not used an android tab but the day i found out the android apps directly come from the developer themselves; i am a bit hesitant to go for it. On the other hand, all apple apps needs to make their way through the apple developers/inspectors so that only the quality apps. can enter the market. Also, the crisper look due to the retina display just is unbeatable along with its battery life. These are some other reasons to opt for an IOS.
Now, the question is, if IOS has a compatiable word processor( lets say the MS office package), it should be able to replace the netbook rite?

Momoo baucha u look like a serious apple fanboy. Ipad is probalby good enough for you if you don't care about folder access and real file systems. On the other hand you can get ultra poertable laptops with real i3 processors for the price of ipad. Check out portege series of laptops. They are great and do everything you want. BTW new mac book airs are coming at the end of july too

MP,
Do these Portege Series laptops even exist anymore. I could not find 'em anywhere.
Anyways, Yes, being a huge Steve Job Fan, i cannot pass my urge to get theirs each of the device that gets released. Macbook, Ipod, Ipod Touch, Iphone and now i am into an Ipad. SIgh!!! :(
Now, I'm just trying to see if there are other strong reasons other than flash support and storage that would prevent me from buying an Ipad.

I have an android tab called Advent Vega and my wife has an IPad. Let me tell you i bought vega in less than half a price of Ipad and it has everything that Ipad don't.
It plays HD without any jutter. Unlike the first Ipad it already came with the camera. When you buy an ipad you will get it in 16 GB, 32 or 64 GB. You can't add memory card . But my android tab has an ability to expand the memory just by adding external drive.
The android tab also came with USB drive so you can easily move files ...connect the wireless USB stick even when you are on the move in the car. It came with HDMI cable which we can connect to the HD tv and watch movies etc.
It already came with dual core processor long before Ipad 2 came. Ipad 2 came and sold it to its fan boy saying it has dual core processor.
The best use of an android tablet is it never gets old. You can always go to the user forum and update at the firmware level. This is never possible in ipad. You probably have to buy new ipad when it comes. I have modified my tablet many times in firmware level. I have now android 3 software in my tablet.
Can any ipad boy say they can modify themselves from one operating system to another.
andorid tablet always keeps you on the toe . You can look for new updates etc. I use this forum and updated my tablet. Now it is completely different than the one i bought and with a lot new featuers.

Apple is good for the people who likes things OUT OF THE BOX. Who does not want to work and play around. But for the people who wants to explore, constantly try new things android tablet is the best. People can get a better tablet at a lot lesser price if they are prepared to work for few hours.
Only thing i like about ipad though is its battery . Its battery is legendary.

Momoo,
iPad2 is more of a consumption tool. By that, I mean the uses such as surfing the web, reading online magazines, ebooks, watching YouTube, communicating via skype, using apps, etc. However, if you want to write a paper or do homework, iPad2 is NOT what you want. For that, you want production tool, i.e. a laptop or netbook or desktop, a machine with actual keyboard and more robust processor.
As for iPad vs. Android based pads, I think it is up to the user. I, for myself, prefer iPad2. Why? I like its intuitiveness. I like the ecosystem Apple has created around it. Sure, you will find better hardware features in other Android based tablets, but when I consider the total package, I find iPad meets my needs better.
Now there is a rumor that iPad3 might come out as early as this September. I don't believe it. But Apple does do crazy stuff.
Another option that you might want to look into is the new Google Chromebook. It is a thin client that needs to be connected to the Web at all times. However, most of the sofwares are all provided by Google. And the pricing is quite attractive too. Check it out at www.google.com/chromebook
Hope this helps.

Why did Apple left HDMI port out of Ipad 2 ?
== So that they can bring Ipad 3 so that their cult follower will rush to the store when it comes.

Thanks Nina and everybody for suggestions. I think now i have made up my mind to go for an Ipad rather than looking for any other android device. As i already said I need to use MS Word occasionally, so my netbook should be able to take care of that. What surprises me is that every review that i am currently finding on the internet regarding the android or blackberry tabs are trying to compare themselves with an Ipad. So, no wonder Ipad must have beaten a hell out of these manufacturers and of course 90% tablets users opting for an Ipad explains a lot. However, now i am confused whether i should go for a cheaper Ipad or its latest version. All the difference i find is the camera and a bit faster processor. God! I hate to compromise.
