They are quite strict about that 1 year timeline. The more time after that 1 year has passed, the more creative your story needs to be about why you didn't file for asylum. Since you have been here for 4 years without filing for asylum, you need to have a very very creative story. I would say that it's not worth it.

 Many people, even the ones who has the business of asylum, does not know this: As long as you are in status, it is not necessary to file in 1 year period.
