you should be able to do that. apply to some community college. write a nice letter mentioning that you could not concentrate well during your first semester or first year because of cultural shock, new environment and so on. make up a nice story. also, mention that now you want to start again and will only transfer those courses with good grades. sometime they grant admission on probation and later change your status to regular when you complete one semester in a good standing.

well that dont mean you are starting all over. you gpa will still be on the record. and yes if this is your first time they will give a chance to improve. they will keep you in porbation have you take those bull shit non credit course. and if you do good on the semester, meaning you get your gpa 2.0+ they will change your status to good standing. that way you will be good to go. but it depends where and which college. good luck brother.

There still are universities that replace your low grade with a high one. What you can do is.
1. Correspond and find such University
a. Lot of Universities don't replace your low grade but average them, you have to find the one that will replace it.
2. Then start off with a community college and retake the classes you have low grades on.
3. After you finish, then transfer to the University you searched.
4. I think you're done :)

GPA is only one of the measures of what you learned in school ( unfortunately, the most important). Convince the admission office that even with low GPA; you learned a great deal in school. Try writing a great letter of intent or admission essay or something as 4A said. But I would suggest to convince yourself that you deserve a second chance. If you make some story, you will be in square one in two years and will be posting another thread in sajha similar to this one.
