Guys I need help with my Sony Vaio notebook which is getting into my nerves since this morning. The thing is .... it flashes a blue screen and keeps on restarting after 2-3 mins for no apparent reason. I am able to reach to window desktop and it gives this pop-up message "Your system has recovered from error" and after 2-3 min it flashes a blue screen and restarts. It was working just fine until last night when I turned it off, the problem started to appear this morning when I tried to turn it on. I can't afford to format it as well 'coz I got some important files in there which I don't have on backup. Help me guys.... any suggestion would be highly appreciated

welcome to the Microsoft World. BLUE SCREEN OF DEATH. this happens due to many reasons, one most important is software/ hardware incompatibility. if you have recently added some hardware or software?? try restarting in safe mode and share what happens, you can copy your important files to d or e drive (if c is OS drive) if you have original CD/ DVD run the setup again in recovery mode (sometime it helps) (XP/ Vista what do you have?) if you can access some of your friends computer download Ubuntu (linux) live CD and burn it and make booting CD. then Boot the system from ubuntu live CD and move your files/ folder to any other drives such as D and E if windows is on C. then, you can format C and reinstall XP/ VISTA. good luck

Hi Geico: Don't forget to do "System Restore". I guess some spyware/virus got installed in your notebook. Go to: (assuming you are running Windows XP) START HELP and SUPPORT Choose "Undo Changes to your computer with System Restore. Then restore you computer to about couple of days before in time. That's should revive back your notebook previous state. Let me know if this works for you.

By CPU cooling , i mean there is some problem with the cooling fan of the processor or the heat sink .

This problem usually happens because of RAM or Processor. But you dont need to worry as your pc is running. You can try booting in safe mode first and try these steps: it may help
My computer properties > Advanced > startup and recovery>settings> uncheck automatically restart option.
and try rebooting in normal mode.

Thanks guys for those tips. I got the problem straightened out with my notebook doing nothing literally nothing. Last night I went home with all your suggestions and turned it on and to my much surprise it worked just fine as it did before that problem occured. Don't know what made it work fine but good for me. LOL. Hope this problem doesn't come back again and stays the same but I still wonder what in the hell was going on with my notebook. Anyway, thanks much guys
