One of my friend is going to apply for visa in KTM soon. His I-20 has been issued with half scholarship(out of state waiver). He has been sponsored by well stablished Nepali PR with all w2s, bank balance and work contract, etc. how much the chance is getting visa with US Sponsor instead of having bank balance on his own name??
Please post your experience here. Thanks...

in I-20, if the SPONSOR'S NAME is listed as the payee [ like there is a amount written with name] then it is VERY EASY.

now the tricky part comes,
why is he sponsoring? [ relationship? why spending lets say $10k/year for this person? ]
net worth of the sponsor?[ property, savings minus debts]
[for example sponsor is making $60k/yr after tax he gets $36k. where does he live in san diego CA where 1 bedroom is $1200/month...thats 15k on rent ... this guy saves like $10k-$15k a year and is willing to spend all[most] of his saving sponsoring somebody else.... hmmm... .. makes sense??]
they would be more interested in tax returns and social security annual statement.

i do not know what they look at.. but here is the basic rule....
if you can convince urself about the sponsorship then it is very easy to convince others..

==================================================
anyway and as always,
what do i know? (o:

I guess going for a visa interview is a guessing game in my experience and differs in each individual case. In my case, my scholorship was just a small fraction of the total cost per year. The consuler did not get deep into how I'll meet the costs and the consuler had very brief questions about it. The consuler was more interested in my previous school and my academic background and how closely it matches up with the major I was taking in the US university.

In all, I did not spend more than 4-5 minutes talking to the consuler and I was stamped in and rest is history.

Hey Binod,
This is really imp stuff that I am going to tell u. I had a friend whose brother was coming on a student visa too. He had bank balance as well as work contract from hotel since he was going to do hospitality mgmt. Even having all these, he was denied visa and the reason was v obvious that he was going to usa to study and not to work. If he were to go to usa to work then, he should have applied for Labor cerification or H1B or other working visas. So if I were you, I would just have bank balance and property valuation like all Nepalese do while applying.

Binodb it is less likely to get visa if some one is sponsered by any people ( not father/mother/sister/brother). If it is full scholarship from school, tht is ok otherwise tell your friend not to do tht otherwise ur friend will not get vissa (99.99%).

BINODB,
There are a lot of places(people) in Nepal that if you give them 3-4 thousand rupees, they'll help u show money in ur own bank account.

Does BINODB stand for the GMW (Girl's Most Wanted) Binod Basnet of the Pulchok Campus fame, by the way?

Hi

I am fortunate to register with this websight. I am a Sierra Leonean, living in Freetown, Sierra Leone.

My question is that i want to know if i am eligible. I finished College (Milton Margai College of Education and Technology) just after the war and my father who has been my sponsor died during the war in a bomb blast. In college i attained a Division II Certificate and I would like to further my studies to Degree level.

At present i have little or no funds to do that, being on my own. I managed to get a job now which helps me to take care of my livelihood.

Please i would be very much grateful if you could help me get a student visa to study out there (get a college for me etc.) I am very much determined to go there find a job which i will engage in whilst in school. Securing this job will assist me in paying back the money you spent for me.

I have been trying for scholarships here in Sierra Leone which has been futile, but i hope and pray that it will work out for good this time round.

Hoping for a favourable and ealiest response.
