I need help with a book title I read couple months ago in one of the library. Here is the summary of first couple chapters I read from the book. I believe It was written by some Iranian/Iraqian author. The man is a doctor and is living at US for his studies, he falls in love with an american lady and has a daughter. he had not visited his home country ( I think it is Iran, or Iraq )?? so he decides to go to his home country for two weeks, His wife and daughter are excited to see his family in his homeland, They arrive his homecountry, and there is a little description about his family, non-hygenic house, the city and blah blah.. At first, the duaghter and wife are treated like a guest and are respected, but as time goes by the family forces the wife to put on burkha, they seperate her daughter, and the man starts living in a seperate room, The wife and daughter are isolated from the house, nobody at the house talk to them, except for one cousin, The trip was meant for two weeks, later on The man decides not to go back to states, and therefore takes his wife's and daughter's passport to make sure they dont go back. the wife is not allowed to go anywhere outside the house. The wife and daughter go through severe emotional stress, One day wife escapes and finally makes her way to the US embassy, unfortunately people at Embassy couldnt help her because she did not have her passport with her.The family finds out that she went outside and therfore have a family member to spy on her....the story continues... This is the farthest I got, I read this novel couple months ago, I do not remember either the tiltle of the book or the author. I know the summary of first couple chapters may not help much, but if somebody has read this book, please post the title or the author. jyotsna.

You're not talking about the Kite Runner, are you? I haven't read the book, but it's by an Afghan author if I am correct.

You just read this book about Iranian extrimism during Aya Tohha Kumeni of late 70'. There is a movie made during early 90' based upon novel which read. The movie'name is, I think, " Without my daughter." You better check at Block Buster to find this movie.
