Hey guys, I have been selected for DV 2014 and since I m in New York, I would like to go for AOS.
So far what I did was
1) Sent DSP-122 and 2 Pic (I didn't send DS-230 form since i am doing AOS)
2) I received a email mentioning that i wanted to do AOS
3) And a form to make a payment to dept of state

My case no is in 3000 line. And visa will available on Feburary. when i called USCIS, they told me that i have to pay a visa fee before feb 1.

My question is
1) in the form for payment for dept of state,  it is mentioned that i have to make a payment once USCIS has accepted my case. How would i know if my case is accepted?
2)when should i submit my medical record?
3)when should i submit my affidavit of support? (my visa will be available on Feburary)

In general i need step by step information. Please help me through this.
Thankyou

Hey Kirtipur,

I was in your shoe few years back.  My experience is not as exact as what you did so far, but here is what I did after I received my DV letter.

  •  Scheduled an appointment with USCIS officer through INFOPASS.  (you can do this through USCIS website and its free)
  • During my appointment, the officer told me that as I was already in US I can apply for change of status. He gave me a list of forms to fill and mail it together. He also told me to send a copy of DV letter and mention “Winner of DV-year Diversity Immigrant Program” on  Part 2, h, of Form I-485.
  • I did not file any DS… Forms as you mentioned.  I send following forms together. You can find where to file address in the Form I-485 Instruction sheet.

o   Form I-485 (Adjustment of status)

o   Form I-864 (Affidavit of support)

o   Form G-325A (Biographic Information)

o   Form I-765 (Application for Employment Authorization)

o   Form I-693 (Report of medical examination and Vaccination record)

I mailed all forms and required documents in early October (since you have visa number telling to file in February, I guess you have to wait). I got letter for Biometric appointment for sometime late November, and went to biometric.  After a month or so of Biometric appointment I received EAD card. I don’t recall properly at the moment, but at some point in April-May I received a letter asking for some kind of fee, which I mailed as instructed, possibly that was my visa fee.  Then, I had interview in early August with USCIS officer and my case was approved.

My suggestions for you, based on where you are in the process are,

  • Send visa fee as instructed.
  • Download forms and instructions that I mentioned above and start working on them.
  • Start gathering documents.
  • Find doctor for medical examination.  You can get the list from USCIS website. Search for Civil Surgeon locator and fill your zip code.  You may want to call couple of doctors and ask how much it cost.  In my case there were 2 doctors nearby where I live, but one guy’s fee was cheaper by $140 than other.

Hope it helped!!
