First of all thank you for the thread supernote. I am an engineering major, I plan to work in the hydro power field . I am planning to get a degree in Mechanical Engineering. But more than that i have a goal to get involved in educational and ecomonic sustainabllity of rural places. long back my social studies teacher taught us that "education is backbone of development" .... i want to work to strenghten that backbone not only for economic and social development but also for to make sure that people can dont live all their lives running after basic needs and die never realising who they really are . Best of luck in your goals Supernote .. may be we can keep in contact and share our views.. a good inisiation . Hope this thread dosent turn being attacked by people who only see the dark side of Nepal

Great thinking the lonely tiger.....
I think it will be awesome if we will be able to do that.... We should be in touch so that we all can bring change in Nepal.
We can bring change in Nepal. We know we love nepal no matter what.... We should try to improve as much as we can, it's our turn...... Let's discuss now and this will be implemented soon in future.... If we plan we will be success, this thread is like a first step to our plan who care about nepal and Nepali....

I am already liking this thread. I am a nursing student and plan to go back to Nepal. I always thought it is hard to find people who would go back and work in Nepal. I am so happy to c this thread and know that there are people who do plan to go back and use their skills. Even when I tell my frens or family about going back and working there, everyone thinks thats never gonna happen. But I wanna do it and I know I will. The Lonely traveler, I thought about the same thing that you did--to have computerised medical record system after having work experiences at the hospitals here in the usa. it is so convenient to have computerized documentation. I would love to c tht happen in Nepal so that everyone including patient, dr and nurses, are on the same page. There wont be any issues about knowing the medical history of the patients, allergies the patient may have and things that are crucial and needed for the care of the patient.

Another thing, that I came by at the hospital while I was visiting Nepal last summer, was ICU doesnot let the visitors sit in with the patient. They only had certain visiting hours. I was shocked with that idea. The patient are at most in need of family support in ICU, esp. the dying patient and the idea of keeping them away from their family members was one of the most awful thing I have ever seen in a hospital setting. I know most medical professionals in Nepal thinks majority of Nepalese are uneducated and are unknown about medical terms so they dont bother to tell and keep them away from the patient coz they dont wanna create an emotional scene that would impact another patient lying in a next room but common it is another job of those docs and nurses to teach the patient and family members about the disease process and support emotionally. It was very painful for me to c family members waiting outside for the visiting hours with out knowing what really is going inside that doors with their loved ones. I think this is the first thing I wanna motivate hospitals to change in the future. Educate the patient and family members, let the family be the part of ICU patients. Dont just give them the list of medicines. Most of the patients in Nepal dont even know their disease process, they dont even know what do they have. They just know that they have to take such and such medicine. Emphasize on educating them health care professionals, thats the part of your job. This is like my dream to make it happen in Nepal :)

Wow, wonderful ishamiss! I salute your thought. Yes, there are people who are gaining knowledge outside and want to go back to bring a substantial change. I worked under the leadership of dr. Bhagwan koirala, a senior cardiac surgeon, while I was in Nepal and when I talk with him these days he keeps saying, " you guys should come back after completion of studies and we should work on our own embracing international standards". I really get inspired by him and I want to go back and bring a change. Why don't we stay connected and go together. We also need some computer pros and other people related to hospital for this! Thank you all!

I highly doubt any of you going back to Nepal anytime soon.

@Ishamiss----Is it really worth studying nursing here in US paying so much money and go back to Nepal to work ? I thought the disease in nepal are compared to US and Nurses in Nepal learn in the perspective of Nepal.
If you wanted to work in nepal, why didn't u pursue a degree in Nepal ? That would have been lot cheaper and at the same time more useful.

Just my 2 cents.

guys the MAIN  reason of Nepals civil unrest is poverty, hunger, shelter and the lack security for the poor. Then comes education, healthcare and justice to all. We need to create jobs, factories, companies  of all kinds in Nepal to provide training and jobs to slowly eliminate poverty. Then hunger, education, shelter will fall in place, then we need leaders to provide security, justice and restore trust in the government.......So we need people from all walks of life contributing........... I want start being a social worker once i have a feel for things around  I want to eliminate Hunger in Nepal and work my way up to tackle every problems that the poor in Nepal go through. That is a PROMISE.

I was checking back at this thread .... i just read the thing i was expecting. Everytime someone, who talks about going back and bringing some change tries  to talk .. some Negative pessimist comes along and uses his/her logics to show how impossible the task is and attempts to make the couregeous move look dumb....Guys i salute you for your commitment  towards our motherland. Please listen to the pessimistic comments with only one goal to  shut these mouth by our deeds in future. For the pessimistic guys:
1.   India would not have been independent had Mahatma Gandhi not returned from England
2.   Had BP koirala stayed in Benaras we would still be subjects of Ranas
3.   The current driving force behind two emerging owers India and China consists of the people who came back at the beggining of the millineum
4.   remember that you might run away from the problems of load shedding , traffic jams , insecurity , poverty and many more ....but your parents, brothers , relatives still have to face it ..  it would be more sensible to solve the problem than running away from it .
5.   It might look impratical but at last we can die proud that atleast we tried , instead of complaining how pathetic Nepal is all our life .
6.   remember that we are being used by this capitalistic society .. and it dosent care for us ... it just cares for our skills , so why not use our skills in the place which cares more about us than the monetory value our skill  .
7.   As for the clearification of studing abroad : studing abroad  spending more money is not just for the education , it for  the  exposure, understand the effficient way to work from the worlds largest economy,  to break the programmed way of looking at lives through the eyes of society, to understand the meaning of hardship, to understand the world first hand , to understand the meaning of being self reliant and to train ourselves for the worst.

For all the people who want to return back home ... like lonely traveller said ... we sholud all be in contact  ( may be we can be friends on facebook or  sth ). United we shall stand . May we all be able to fulfill our dream of a better Nepal.

Lonely Traveler, I am with u. I am a big fan of Bhagwan Koirala and its like one of my dream to work with him. We can definetely be in touch. We dont have to act like today or tomorrow. We can finish our study and plan accordingly ni haina ta? I know few good computer professionals who can and are willing to help us so that wont be a problem. :)

Purano Kagaj, I totally understand and agree with what you said. But, when I first came to the states I think I was little less mature and little less educated than what I am now. But on the other hand I am glad I came here and learned little more about the world and nursing itself that I can take back to Nepal and hopefully use it. If I had stayed there and studied, I dont think I would ever think about doing further or making something good happen in Nepal in Health care field that I have said above. I would be willing to go abroad like many of the people in Nepal right now. I would be no different than people in Nepal with big dreams to live abroad and make more money if I were in Nepal. About money, I know its important and I did spend a lot of it and i am spending a lot right now than what I would spend in Nepal to go to school there but oh well Its ok....I hope I will earn enough to keep myself and my family alive and that should be enough to survive. There is no use of earning more than we need just to buy expensive stuff and to fulfill fantasies of life or to show off to others as most of us do here in the states. I should be just fine. :)

Terobaaje, To me EDUCATION is the most important of all. If one has education, the rest of the things will fall off on its own, if not then atleast that educated person has IDEAS that can be used to get the rest of the things. :)

Jujuman: Thank u alot for putting ur thoughts in a coherent manner with examples. Yes, if Mahabir Pun had not returned to Nepal, the rural communities in the hilly areas would not have been connected via Internet with the external world.
Purana kagaz: take it positively brother. We will surely go. Let us complete our studies here first.
Isha miss: I don't know how close u are with completing ur studies, but I have at least 2 yrs. to complete my BS and 2 more years for MS. Let's keep this spirit alive and move forward to accomplish our goal. Where there is will there is way!!!

I am a chartered accountant living in the UK for more than ten years. I do think we can make a difference to our society if we go back home. I have express my intention about returning to Nepal to friends & family but nobody is suggesting me to come back. My plan is not to work in accountancy field but to go some village & engage on social works such as teaching or health awareness program. I want to redeem myself & feel free from the guilt that i have been away from my native land for such a long time for my own benifit. I no longer enjoy living luxurious life. i have a strong desire to live on a remote village, cultivating my own vegitables and live a farmer's life and engage into social works.

Isamis I want to agree to disagree with you, I really like your way of thinking but I feel both are important education and Hunger, BUT when a family is hungry, uneducated father mother and young kids, educating them to get better jobs is a great thing but Khali pet ma education wont matter, feeding the immediate hunger so food is out of their worries and then they can educate them selves and train the parents to get better job. ALL im saying is a hungry man doesnt think of education, but food........and food only. AND YES on the longer run education will help them create a better life for them...in the mean time we have to find a way to tackle their immediate needs and in the same time provide means to have a better life in the future like education or job training. We both mean well and we have our own idea of what needs to be done. I tackle the immediate problems and once thats taken care you take over...hows that?

Change in national anthem

Change in structure

Change in leadership

Change in perspective

All these changes, as promised by the new leadership

                Will bring new direction

But evaluating the current scenario

I think only politicians are getting attention

I think the problem started when they forgot

To give attention to our beloved country

I see new “Nepal” is becoming

A dirty playground for our mantris

We thought of a great future

                With peace and harmony

                But with the current situation

It seems our future will be gloomy

Strikes are rampant

Civil life is disrupted

My question to leaders of “New Nepal”

Is this what they projected?

If that is the case then

People in “New Nepal” will have to be activated

And if it is not from them (politicians)

                Then we have to motivated

Motivated to kick ugly politics

Motivated to let go old policies

Motivated to do without old policies and politicians

Motivated to bring a change in the current situation

If each one of us became

Part of the “chain of reaction”

Then I am sure one day

Our country will live up to our expectations

Let us all join the initiative

Started by super note’s effort

Let us join our hands

To make “New Nepal” work.

I am an accounting major and i plan to encourage the chamber of commerce in various districts to promote social welfare and explain them the merits of doing that.
