I have been working in one of the company since last one year through consultancy. You know how consultancy process our stuff to get into a job. Now my company is offering me full time but I am concerned with my paper work and background check.
I know many of you on sajha has gone through this transition. Can anyone please explain how did you handle the situation and successfully got into FT? They haven't told me about the process as if I have to go through interview , BG check and all but just wanted to be informed.

Hello khabar,
As i know and heard of around, it depends on company. Different companies have different ways to place you full time from contract. I know they will do BG for sure but not interview process. Some might check your degree and also check 5 years payroll. Some companies don't.
I think best will be to check at your own company policy or ask some other Nepali or Indian how is the process and all. It might help you.

Chumbak is right. Different companies have different policies. From my experience, since larger companies (especially publicly traded ones) post their official job requisitions, they go through a full recruitment process. No matter you are an internal candidate, a contractor working for the firm or an external applicant you would have to go through their application submission, sekection, interview, offer and acceptance. As this process is largely driven through decision made by hiring manager and since you've got most of the part straightened out the only sticky meat is your BG check. References, Education and Drug tests are easy peasy - you got that part. I cannot claim that I know about Employment verification though. Like Chumbak said, some companies might be stricter about EV and might want to check with previous company's HR. But if in your resume you mentioned your previous company was a client and that you were contracting with ABC then you may get a pass. But even I do not know how that works. Curious too to learn from other posters.

Like kalidas said..if your resume includes clients and you use your consultancy as your employer for all previous experience... You should be fine. BG usually means criminal BG check. And depending on company..internal placement can be very smooth...
You get call from HR saying your manager has recommended you for position... Salary range..benefits. (If you need h1 transfer, this is the time to talk about it)
You fill out official application(formality).
HR offers you position... You give verbal acceptance.
They do BG/reference check etc...
They Send you written offer with discussed salary and benefits. (One suggestion...Don't try too hard on salary)
You are all set!

Dont worry about resume mismatch. They have different process to hire temp and ft. Your manager may not even see your resume this time. HR does everything. Just to be on safe side use the same resume that you sent a year ago with current job addition.

Thank you all for your inputs. Hopefully things will go smoother. The process has started and they havent asked anything back from me so far except my salary expectation. The other thing is I mentioned only clients in my resume when I first joined through consultancy so I think I will need to mention that now . It's a small company so hopefully the process shouldn't be complicated. Thanks again guys and look for other Inputs from anyone else if they were in similar situations.

I am in the same situation. Just this Friday, my boss asked me if I was interested to join them full-time. I have been working as consultant (Client - Vendor - Desi Consultancy model) for 2 years 3 months now and am on 1st year of my H1B and this is my first project. Apparently, I cannot work for the same client for more than 3 years through the vendor. I don't know the recruitment procedures yet but my boss reached out to me asking how many years relevant experience do I have as it's needed to fill up an HR form field that asked for the experience required. This is where I was not sure what to tell, waited on the email for a while to review my old resume. Boss was not my hiring manager when I got hired 2 + years before, but I couldn't just say that this is my first project as they probably have my old details. Since the question was how many years relevant experience, I had to tell by referencing my old resume that I worked in a few other projects adding up to 5 years. It will probably be a while before HR reaches out to me, however, glad to follow this thread, get inputs from you all on updates on your situation.

K6takhabar and proudprakriti, good luck to you guys. what field in IT did you guys got trained on and are working on. Please help me , i am thinking about joining consultancy too.

@taxidriver: Did Masters in Management Information Systems. Joined this consultancy specifically because they were the only ones who agreed to take me in without any training. Got very lucky by cracking an interview. Here's a tip - all you need is communication skills, confidence and of course a bit of luck! Honestly, most of these so-called training are a big waste of time. In my case, I already had the knowledge and all I needed was confidence to get in. But for someone with a completely different background, it would help but only if you have a great trainer, unfortunately there aren't many!

A quick update on my process:

1) Got an option to convert into FT and I showed my interest in it.
2) After having confirmed I am not breaking my previous employer contract terms which was a year contract , I was asked about my salary expectation. I gave them an offer. Make sure you have something in mind before you try to negotiate. Those HR people are very smart to trick you.
3) Got counter offer within a week with the salary package that I had in mind.
4) They sent me offer paper with few days to accept or reject.

5) I accepted the offer.

6) Within few days they sent me all internal papers (health insurance , w4 and .....
And that was it.

No interview , no BG Check(they had done it when I first joined as contract employee and I believe they assumed it's not needed at this time. ) , no inquiry on resume or asking about submitting updated resume.

Overall the process went very smooth .

Hope this help some one one the same boat. If you have an option go for it , the worst that can happen is they will not hire you. And if that's the case there are thousands of consultancy who will place you somewhere.

@k6takhabar Congrats! You are set! Here's my updates - HR reached out to me and our discussions were based on what system I am working on, how long I've been working with them, and of course who holds my H1B. I was then asked to give them a salary figure. HR was also trying to find out what benefits, perks I get through my current employer. I told HR that I needed some time to research. Another HR meeting and I gave my salary range and they will get back to me with an offer soon. So it went pretty smoothly just like @guchhachor :-) stated in thread earlier. Will update when I get updates.

taxidriver i know few people who got job through vastika which is a nepali consultancy in dallas. You might wanna try them.

QA mostly. It's the easiest one to learn if no experience. If you have great communication and writing then you can try BA.

Congratulations! and thank you friends. This is a good thread about a topic that we all need help on. Let me share my experience and I would like to get your inputs please. A BA Full Time offer predicament: I am a Business Analyst. I came to US as a Student, after MBA completion went to a D*** Consultancy and worked as a BA (Did not had any IT background, only plain vanilla MBA). Worked as BA and within 2-3 years of BA work, the same D*** Consultancy sponsored my GC (with EB2 it was quicker). For last one and half years I've been working as a BA Contractor for a client, as a full time employee of one of it's Direct Vendor. The pay is OK (you tell me if it is OK, it is $50 per hour in W2 and 80 Hours annual Paid Time Off by Vendor and 3% 401K contribution). Approximately I made $105,000 in W2 (annual). Now the client is interested in offering Full Time but with all their similar positions (Senior BA) the max salary band is around $70 - $75K (add health insurance benefits, a 5% 401K contribution, 3 weeks paid time off). But I cannot wrap my head around the money I am getting now and the money that I will get if I jump full time (a maximum that I can negotiate). They would not hire me as a Senior Manager for which the salary range goes a little bit higher (85K) and IMO, I am not yet skillful (Sr. Managers are executive sponsors types in this client) and a current BA Lead positions do not go much high in salary range even if I negotiate good salary (say, max 75K). Should I stick with current Contracting Model with $50 per hour? Risk = Project will end sooner or later. And then Vendor doesn't pay bench time salary (say, the way IBM or Accenture does for it's full timers). But probably I could always get another job. Your thoughts please.

75K for a Senior BA is too low. I would stick with the contract. With 4+ years of real experience you should be able to get a new job when project ends.

@taxidriver : I have my Bachelor in computer science and did training on .NET which IMO was not much helpful at job.We use .NET along with JAVA on our projects and basically we have to do all.I think as other say Vastika has some good placement in Texas. You may give it a try but I believe they only have trainings for mostly .net and Java

BA bro I think 75 k sounds too low and you should definitely stick to consultancy then. I was offered little higher then what I was receiving through consultancy with all those paid time and other benefits.

Whatever route you chose especially for developers , you need to keep moving from one job to other if you really want to learn new technology and not get outdated .
