Frm wikipedia: "An Internet troll, or simply troll in Internet slang, is someone who posts controversial, inflammatory, irrelevant or off-topic messages in an online community, such as an online discussion forum or chat room, with the intention of provoking other users into an emotional response or to generally disrupt normal on-topic discussion."
Trolling is a game about identity deception, albeit one that is played without the consent of most of the players. The troll attempts to pass as a legitimate participant, sharing the group's common interests and concerns; the newsgroups members, if they are cognizant of trolls and other identity deceptions, attempt to both distinguish real from trolling postings, and upon judging a poster a troll, make the offending poster leave the group. Their success at the former depends on how well they — and the troll — understand identity cues; their success at the latter depends on whether the troll's enjoyment is sufficiently diminished or outweighed by the costs imposed by the group.
Trolls can be costly in several ways. A troll can disrupt the discussion on a newsgroup, disseminate bad advice, and damage the feeling of trust in the newsgroup community. Furthermore, in a group that has become sensitized to trolling — where the rate of deception is high — many honestly naïve questions may be quickly rejected as trollings. This can be quite off-putting to the new user who upon venturing a first posting is immediately bombarded with angry accusations. Even if the accusation is unfounded, being branded a troll is quite damaging to one's online reputation." (Donath, 1999, p. 45)

Stop showing off. We get it. You know english. Your lengthy comment to SKH where you "disclaim" that you are not trying to mock SKH, was quite obnoxious and condescending. Why would you try to establish your superiority over SKH just becuase he is a little weak in a language that is not even his native? Not knowing english does not make a person stupid.
And besides, SKH has a point. What the Americans claim to be "english" can no longer be called english in it's true sense - the english that is spoken/written by a majority of the rest of the world. It has reached a point where you have to say, I speak American. I live in the USA, but learnt my english in Nepal, and when I go to a subway and ask for some "capsicum" in my sandwich, or go to the store buy a woolen "muffler", they look at me like I don't know english, in an almost condescending attitude similar to how you responded to SKH. And imagine my frustration for getting marks cut on my final paper for "spelling mistakes" a la neighbour, colour. Heck, even MS Word in my college will give you humiliating sqwiggly line for such spelling "mistakes"
So my point is, when SKH says " I heard Americans do not know English that much as the British or the rest of the world." I think he's right, because they speak American, not English.
thats what we're all doing good friend. And when someone like SKH tries to put US down just because we're following our dream, when he tries to use misguided patriotism to make it seem that we are traitors and what not, when in fact, most of us out here become even more patriotic than we were in Nepal, thats when the sh!t hits the fan.
And ar_es if you haven't spotted already, he's trying very hard to show that he speaks broken english when in fact (judging from his other posts) he's fine. This kind of dementia boils my blood. In my eyes SKH is a troll and his posts hold no weight, no relevance except mockery, which as the adage goes; an eye for an eye, deserves the same.
I am unaware of the preceeding exchanges between SKH and you, nor the history of animosity between you all, but judging this post by a person apparantly looking for feedback on his english improvement and mcmcx's "verbose" response that served no purpose other than to parade his vocabulary skills, I thought SKH deserved some support here. I have to admit, it's quite irritating to see some think they are holier than thou just because they know a few extra words from the dictionary.
The function of any language is to communicate. No matter how good you are with a language, if a person has to look up a dictionary to understand you, it just defeats the whole purpose. All I got out of mcmcx's post was "I am better than you".
DekchiD is right. I havent replied in this thread yet but I have been reading it. Noone makes fun of the people (with some exceptions) who is willing to learn and truely presents him/her self in the picture. But whoever that SajhaKoHero or Villan is, He is a pimp and he deserves names because He tried to pretend what he is not. I dont like people who humilliates others.
If you know how to judge people then you should be able to do that by the thread itself, how can one improve english by reading the post in sajha. He (peace of shit) is just making fun out of it. I can understand if someoone have improved english by reading sajha if he is total beginner so you should know what we are talking here, we are talking about the level of english we have, I have you have which certainly cant be improved by reading sajha post because the most of the threads are posted on what we call back in Nepal is Bhaisi English. I am not saying users of sajha are lacking english, they just dont feel the need of proper english in the posts.
Also, mcmx not only have good english but also bears good grip in Nepali. I personally dont know anyone here just praising the good things and trying to demotivate the bad trend going in sajha. If that looser (SajhaKoHero) was really looking to improve his english then he should have taken help from the peoples who have good at that but in fact he is making fun of them buying being irritating, ignorant, ridiculous...I dont have enough words for that. He is bitching about USA and American english and still want to go USA, preparing for TOEFL blub blub......all this is crap. You may find American english little bit informal but I think its cool. You cannot say its not real english, we just taught british english back in Nepal doesnt mean you come here in USA and say American english is not english, Pure english is British. You should know one thing, its not about USA only, wherever you go you will find something unique but I like it and thats why I am here. If you dont then you are free to do anything you think is good for you.
Ar_es!! Pray read my comments in other threads and SKH's other threads. I am quite sure, you will understand the motive behind my verbosity, as well as so called condescending comments. Find me a place where I have tried to "genuinely" humiliate him, and I shall retreat. The reason I go berserk over such narrow beliefs being imposed upon others in the name of religion and caste, is simple. Progressive belief system. I am quite arranged in my beliefs, and I do not impose my will and opinions on others. As you may take it, it is your prerogative. Now, as far as English goes, I am a self taught person. I was very weak in English until 8th grade. I toiled and persevered and honed my skills, which is still primitive. I used to have a series of conflicts with my English teacher over my choice of words and sentence structure. But my fruition of labor culminated when I topped one of a mid term exams in my University in English with just a 87 percentile, and honestly was quite elated when my paper was passed out hand to hand. So much for the elation, in the subsequent exam, I barely passed with a mere 45 percentile. You can do the maths behind the reason. Yes, my friend, verbosity. I was cocky, and took my excellence for my invincibility. And I was defeated. But I have no qualms over it.
Now, if the purpose of any language is mere communication, I do not feel the need of set rules and regulations governing the usages. And if you have to turn pages of dictionary to find the words, then, I guess all the classic literature as well as any verbose book should be proscribed from the syllabus prescriptions. Anybody can spray paint over a blank canvas and call it art, but only Pollock could pull it off as an international fame and event of the century. By saying this, I am not comparing myself to any literary greats, but stating a mere drift of opinions here. I write for myself, at the most, and if someone finds it hard to understand me, which is not so unintelligible per se, I urge, why not expand our horizons. A lot of sajha writers are acclaimed for their stories and so forth, yet, I have not garnered that following, nor do I aspire to. But an occasional adulation does bring a grin or smile in my face. My purpose served. And at that, if you can read and enjoy the literary classics without any inhibited criticism, I wonder why I end up being crucified as verbose or gaudy. I am a perfectionist, but yet not perfect in that. I grow everyday, with my shortcomings and errors, and strive to better myself in the future endeavours. If you think, my postings do not serve any purpose other than flaunt my oboslete and out of place words, then, I am yet again defeated.
Now, feeding the troll!! SKH is, I am sure, a well learned person of profound intelligence and academia. But his virtues hold no merit in my eyes, if he really does harbor such disdain and hatred for certain other things. The degree and education is worth nothing if one cannot spot a black from white. I am a university drop out and have not turned a single page of a book except for the raunchy and suspence paperbacks in more than a decade. The list of books our dear sajhaites discuss is out of my grasp of comprehension. So, I am sure, I am not parading my verbosity but striving to stay in the pool so that I can swim a little bit longer.
Having said that, I thank you for criticizing me. And I hope, I have not used any word that warrants the usage of dictionary.
I wish you would keep your writing simple so that everyone can understand and follow what you are trying to say. All I am saying is, ...and I will use your Pollock art analogy..., it's like you're trying to paint a fine art masterpiece where a simple book illustration is all that's needed. Were this an essay competition, I would understand, and appreciate your writing style. But this is just a simple forum. Don't over do it.
gc1488 - It's all a matter of perspective. Some people get attention on themselves by being a bit irritating, ignorant, ridiculous and all of those things which you guys find obnoxious, whereas mcmxc gets attention on himself my acting too sophisticated and suave, which others might find equally obnoxious.
mcmxc - Hope you take this as constructive criticism, and I will admit, in it's right place, your writing style is pretty good.
dekchidriver - The worst thing you can do to a troll is hijack his thread and completely ignore him. You should be happy with how this discussion is turning out.
