Gurkha paramilitary police patroled the Suntec City Covention Hall where the IMF-World Bank Meetings was held, Wednesday Sept. 13, 2006 in Singapore. The city-state is mobilizing its entire police force and its reserve police national service numbering over 10,000 to provide 24-hour security for the meetings, which are expected to gather 16,000 delegates and visitors from all around the world over the week. With Gurkhas being seen patrolling around the IMF- World Bank Meeting Venue the expectation of demonstration by the protestors was not seen or heard. Before the meeting large number of people had planned to protest as usual as at every IMF-World Bank Meeting. The word Gurkha, the distinguish felt hat and the mere sight of Khukri was enough to deter the protestors away.

Bravest of the brave, most generous of the generous, never had country more faithful friends than you.
Those words, written by Sir Ralph Turner, a former officer in the 3rd Gurkha Rifles, have been carved on a memorial to Britain's Gurkha soldiers, unveiled on Wednesday.
The nine-foot Gurkha statue was sculpted by Philip Jackson and is located in London's Whitehall. It was commissioned by the Gurkha Brigade Association Trust and unveiled by the Queen accompanied by the Duke of Edinburgh and Prince Charles, who is Colonel-in-Chief of the Royal Gurkha Rifles.
The Trust says the statue will act as a permanent memorial to "the most constant friend and ally that Britain has ever known."

Do you think so that it is sad and shame for Nepal and Nepalese?
Out side country Nepal, people respect to Gurkha and build their memorials .... but inside our country Nepal... we do even have single place for their respect and memoribilias. Nobody care about their devote and countribution for their country.
my exact sentiments....there have been many national heros...not only d Gurkhas...that the nepalese govenment have turned a blind eye on. When the politicans don't pay due acknowlegdement 2 the achievements of the nation's sons n daughters...doesn't it say a lot abt their sense of nationalism. Biased n unpatriotic...
when nothing much is done..as india enroaches into our motherland...wat can we expect 4 her glorious sons n daughters ??? There a apparent hint of discrimation as well...
swatantratagaamy you welcome. Kina Kina mero derai yaad are yor k mero gurkha camp kho. the camp where i grew up. all this pictures and music brings my memories again of yesterday.
swatantratagaamy dude were you based in HK or Brunei?
kcbhai dude you are right. Gurkhas are probably the world's most feared soldiers and no doubt the world's toughest force. For every 1 vacancy, there are about 250 applicants each year. Only 300-400 recruits are taken every year after stringent ofgruellinng mind, physical, medical test. 120 would be taken by Singapore Force and the rest taken by the British.
AP98 dude if i am there is a museum. http://www.thegurkhamuseum.co.uk/
