Since most of us, including me, are pretty good at finding other's errors and loopholes. I am sure there are plenty of you that will be able to help me with a assignment for my Eng 365 class.

I need to make a list of Hall of Shame i.e. find grammatical errors in newspapers, periodicals, books, billboards and other official publication.

I know most of you are like "what is google for?". But my teacher has said that he will make sure I didn't use google.

SO, IF ANY ONE HAS EVER HAD TO DO THE SAME THING FOR A CLASS PLZZZZ HELP ME OUT.

***Typographical errors do not count. Sentences that are missing the comma before "and" and before the last item in a series also do not count(style option)****

Dreamer , english is funny language no doubt about it.
May be it might sound rite to you when you hear or in general converstion but it is not correct grammaratically when you put that in write that in sentence.
just like "pani khane?"

Dreamer is right. team is a plural term when you consider it involving in some activity/motion, so "are" playing is absolutely correct, and "is" playing is not OK.

umm...let me try to explain it the best i can

When we say Germany is a big economy, or Germany is a big country , it is ok. Probably because we are talking about millions of people there and lots of other abstract things that can not be counted.

However, when we know that a bunch of footballers belonging to Germany, who can be counted like 1 2 3 , are playing against another team, it is NOT wrong to say Germany are playing......Maybe in this case, Germany means those footballers who can be counted. Well, this is my explanation.

so, i stand firm on my first statement (not on the logic though)

does this sound right to you if you say:
Germans are playing with costaricans.
&
Germany are playing with costarica

its upto u?
Germany is countable noun. so is costarica .why not use a proper verb.

finally, i found one on eKantipur (rembember that it is what Girija said, not what Kantipur wrote):

Third paragraph:
"I am ...... Everybody has extended their support for peace."

Kantipur could have corrected it before deciding to quote it. Otherwise, it should have simply rephrased it so that it could avoid his grammitical error.

Thank you soooooo much. I was so happy to read your post until I found this in my grammar booky

#### The following words are always singular----everbody, each, either, much, neither.#####

Does it mean that it's OK to say Everybody(singular) has(singular) their(his/her??) support.....

"everybody has extended his/her support" is correct, but dont know if "his/her" can be replaced by "their" under same grammitical structure.

ke hunchha sochnai parchha, kina ki the structure was used by 8-grader Girija, not by the newspaper's online edition.

Was Girija referring to "Everybody = Every Nepalese politician or every Nepalese political parties or everything that SPA is doing/going to do", and "their = those Indian politicians"? then Girija was correct and you are right. I am absolutely wrong here.

Do you guys think there is something wrong in this sentence

However, it is not known at this point whether the German could make a dramatic return to the squad, providing the bonus payments are made.

http://fifaworldcup.yahoo.com/06/en/060610/1/7ajq.html (last para)
Is the use of the word providing correct in the sentence?

What do you guys think this would count as, typo or a grammatical error?

“They segregated the Kashmiri labourers, lined up the non-Kashmiri labourers and fired at them from point blank range. While six died on the spot, three succumbed in hospital, the Hindu quoted an official as saying.

Where are the ending quotes supposed to be?

Guys, I am getting really desperate here. I need to find errors.

I know that up-to-date report is often written as up to date report, I am trying to find this error in a newspaper; doesn't matter what it is korea times, japan times, china times whatever. If any of you come accross this error plzzzzzzzzzz let me know.
