I'm trying to convert everyone into being a vegetarian, as I despise people who eat meat. Eating meat is wrong, any form of animal cruelty is wrong. They are animals, they have feelings just like us humans do. Put yourself in the same position as these poor animals, would you like it to get chopped up and have no say in it?

Watch this video of KFC's treatment of chickens, its just despicable:

We're on the top of the food chain, we should be better than trying to harm animals with feelings. And please, spare me all that crap about the structure of our teeth.

People who eat meat are so selfish to give up meat. Vegetarianism and Veganism are both perfectly healthy lifestyles. Its not even like you have to go out of your way to be one, you find plenty of different foods at restaurants and grocery stores to suit your needs as a vegetarian.

Go to this site to read about the treatments of animals:

Don't be selfish, give up meat. Eat more plants, you can get plenty of nutrition from them.

Thanks.

Pakistan produces world class fast bowlers because their diet includes meat. Historically, India ends up with mediocre fast bowlers becuase most of them are veggies. Of course, Kapil Dev was an exception. This has been an issue over and again whenever cricketing world talks about the subcontinent's fast bowlers. Indian pacers do not have that venom and aggression as their Pakistani counterpart has, which is such a huge factor to intimidate batsmen. This has been proven over and over.

I do not see any reason to try to be vegetarian. It is entirely a personal choice and taste and vegetarian are healthier than non-veg theory holds no water. I can understand dismay over animal cruelty but if they are raised and slaughtered for one purpose that is consumption, I do not see any reason to make an issue out it. Like earlier writers pointed out, it is okay to adhere on what you believe but totally different thing to force that thoughts on somebody. Enough Said...

As far as I know, animal right activits are usually absolutists, some are way too vocal and some are not, I am in the second catagory here, and I do not eat meat, do not wear leather, fur, bones, use products that have caused harm to animals in it's making, no eggs, milk. I am the only one in my family who is so, but I have never and never will try to force my beliefe into someone else. I do not think its a big deal either, just like meat lovers love meat, I do not like it, this liking and not liking comes out of what one believes in. We have had a long biological histry in making us meat eaters, even as I abstain from meat, I do worry that I am not getting enough vitamins and minerals, that one needs for optimal functioning of senses etc. But I can sacrifice something of myself because, just by trying out this lifestyle I have given a voice to animals who are in pain, are put through harsh conditions and are being used for human greed rather than its need. It's my decision and my lifestyle and I am proud of it withough trying or wanting to be all too self-righteous about it.

I think we can't hav a serious discussion about this issue because our animal friends don't like talking with us . We don't know if they are for or against animal rights. If we can have a disagreement between gay rights why can't they(animals) disagree about animal right, hehe. Just kiddin'. No offence to our animal right brothers and sisters.
Anyway, what would dashain be like without tat tato ragti ra khuti ko jhol. If mata devi has no objection for killing a khasi, I have no objection eating it, hehe.
lekh da lekhdi Kya Bhok lagyo malai ta. now, if you guys can excuse me, I gatta go eat my mu shu pork.

I don't have time to read all the threads regarding this subject. Once again, I think we should all strive not to eat meat. Remember couple of hundreds of years ago people thought it was ok to have slaves. There were people even at that time who said it was wrong, but they were ignored.

I don't want to preach about religion, morality, etc. As human being we should listen to our inner voice. There is life in animals and it is wrong for human beings to take away that life while there is abundant other sources of food around us. Our ancestors did not have many options so they had to eat meat. We have a choice.

I know it is easy for me to say this. I still have not been able to quit completely, but again I am trying.

Regards

hey!

Of all the threads, this one seems to be going somewhere! Some of the facts touted here have some truth to it. I guess it all comes down to the individual ya? ya'll agree? -But, here are a few more things to consider.. (take a diff. approach)

-The driving force behind the destruction of the tropical rain forests is the American meat habit.
-More than half of the water used in the US is for raising animals for food.
-25 gallons of water is needed to produce a pound of wheat.
-2500 gallons of water is used to produce a pound of meat.
-250,000 pounds of animal excrement is produced every second and there is no sewage system for them.
-In 1989, over 40% of the worldýs grain harvest was used to feed animals going to slaughter.
-If the same grain was used to feed people, world hunger would be all but gone.
-In 1991, 37.5 million cows, 85.5 million pigs, 5.5 million sheep, 242 million turkeys, and over 4 billion chickens are killed for the taste of their flesh.

Frightening numbers ya? i wonder what the figures are like today! considering these figures are from 91!!

Big ups to you Disco!!and all you vegetarians out there, i've tried and boy did i try! lets just leave it at that. "compassion over killing" Peace.

What is the status of egg, is it a veg or non-veg item, what about milk ne??
Aba passion ko mode ma, ignorance ko domination ma rahana khojne harulai non-veg diet nabhaye ke le fuel up garne hola.
But one thing is for sure cruelty for animals as a matter of fact any living entity, even mosquitoes is not a right thing to go about.

Those are some staggering stats Purple!!! Yes, it all comes down to what kind of decisions people make but there is nothing called impossible. It might be hard for people to quit meat but it is possible...so don't give up early guys!! If you are concerned and you care you will definitely make it possible. What makes it even saddening is that people boast about eating meat considering the fact that the idea of eating meat has brought so many troubles....

One more thing...when we go to fast food joints like McDonald's or something like that..a burger could be bought for relatively cheap price but for a price of small salad..its crazily high..there is no way in the world that green can be that expensive than meat..I think its all about making people discourage eating those stuffs or else their business wouldn't run...

I did not think that video was that bad.. after seeing all those people being beheaded in Pakistan and Iraq .. I did not understand one thing.. instead of chopping their head off why will you waste 5 minutes to kill a chicken.. .stupid.. May be their boss kick them for not doing things right and they pour their anger on poor chickens.. I thought that movie "Chicken Run" was more sympathetic than this video.. NoMEATMan go and watch that movie..

Purpletoenails, Thanks for the ups, I guess I was blessed to have friends who I stayed with for a while and took me couple of trials to get into the habit, but I dont think its too far fetched, I was the most carnivoric of my family before I gave up meat, I remember one of my uncles who was/is a big time in outdoor barbecues, tailgate, kinds of meat- you name it, was so aghast when he learned that I went Veggie that he told people around "Tyoo mulaa taa Kukurr koo masu Panu Kahnthyoo", cause I was the one to pick up the first meat off the grill and clean off the grill in the end as well. So its not really far fetched, if you want to do it give it couple more tries. But there are shades of grays, there are these Jain folks, who sweep while they walk so they dont step on bugs and wrap mouth piece around so they dont inhale- thats an extreme but just as little helps as well, I guess cutting it down a bit rather than going for the long haul with the thought that you are in some ways helping do count.

Ok this is gonna sound really bad, BUT i don't think i'd have such a big problem about eating meat as such, i mean it's almost instinctual! it all goes back to the big neanderthals (inborn pattern), however my only problem is with big corporations such as McDonalds exercising exactly what i stated in my previous thread, i mean really! what right minded person would ever eat maccas in the first place!!

okie dokie. see ya!!

Oyssss chilllllllll, hi ya! :o)
