I am from engineering background have and been working in IT for almost a decade mostly using .net and sql server. Started as a mid-level developer and working as a senior developer from last 4 years. I don't see any advancement in my career or knowledge if continuing as a developer. Few years back I used to get excited by the pay raise every time I used to switch my job. Money is no more motivating factor for me to continue. I want to switch to technical project manager but not sure how to start. Is it good idea to do PMP certification or just take some kind of training from desi consulting companies on techniques and tools for project management. Can you guys suggest me what are my options.

@aasirbad - since a 10 year developer would seldom ask that question ..but no hard feelings...we are all learners here...sometimes it pays to be humble, I guess...plus our friends here in sajha will make us humble...that's why we love coming here... anyways..... I would think PMP would give you something to say to the new hiring manager...project manager trainings by desi consultancies is a jhoor-patas idea...I guess internet, linkedin forums and coursera are good enough as you are gonna have to pad your resume anyways.... (If I was a role model citizen, I would write role model ideas.....so proaly you and I started working in IT around the same time...and, like I, now you want a salary raise by working as a PM...sounds good to me...go get it done girl)

@KaliKoPoi, the post for RN was for my wife. @pirka, there is no need to fake anything. I am just seeking for advice. I believe many saja users are developers who eventually have changed their careers towards project management. It is always good to get advice from people before starting anything new. @kalidasbhaisaab thank you for your advice and as you mentioned we all are learners and any advice can helpful.

@Aashirbad how good are you at modeling? A TPM needs highly specialized Skillsets and earn around 140K/annum. Your communication skills should be very superb. If you are good at modeling, I urge that you explore opportunity as a Solution Architect. Have you ever worked in Agile projects? Do you have know how of how to set up and coach teams in DevOps, CI, CD etc. then delivery manager or Technical Agile Coach may be a better idea. Please IM me if you need any help with exploring opportunity as a Coach and Delivery Manager. I have already personally placed a couple senior developer as Delivery Manager and Coach. And, yes, it requires a high level faking

Hi, I am also thinking about shifting the line of profession. I have been in .NET, SQL Server development since last 15 years in the various levels from Junior Developer to Lead Developer. I don't know where to start to move to Project/Technical manager. Do you think PMP certification is enough for career switch? Regards,
