We taking a excel- DAX class and files are on dbase. I need to go through query. It could not connect. I think I need a active server.
I have window 7 with 2010 office and trial copy 2016 for DAX (does not run on Mac).
I just looked at the youtube and it showed how to create New Data Source?
ODBC - dBASE files _ added MS odbc for Oracal or I can choose different driver ? driver to microsof dBASE ?
It shows c:\WINDOWS\system\msorcl32.dll not fund when I added Oracle on.
Any suggestion to download and try again?

Did you try to connect from Excel? If not, here's what I will do based on the info you provided- Open Excel>Data>From Other Sources>From SQL Server and then fill out servername- User Name- Password-

Couple years ago I used to log on SAP gui . This computer is part of learning project as we do on old cars. I tried to connect as asked on course "msedxeus.database.windows.net" it gives warning "the user was not authorized."

From your computer where you have installed SQL server, Lets do this, 1. Go to sql server configuration manager 2. Sql server network configuration 3. Protocols for MSSQLSERVER there you will see three options, 1. Shared memory 2. Named Pipes 3. TCP IP check if they are disabled, if Named PIPED disabled, enable them, do same thing on SQL Native client 11.0 configuration---Client protocols--- you will see same options as above. Enable Named pipe . ( this is important since you are connecting through ODBC or any external connections. )

I just did. Follow above instruction. Where do you have your Database? I means you are trying to connect to the database ( Sql server) where do you have your sql server? On your PC/Laptop? or remotely somewhere ? You need to log in to that machine where you have sql server installed and than follow the steps. Sql server configuration manager will be found if you go on the start menu and search .

I re-installed window software to Factory setting on one of the old HP laptop. It has Norton and it is trying to upload it's software but it gives same message" We are unable to communicate with one of our servers. Would you like to attempt to correct this problem by releasing and renewing your IP settings?"
It does not let me query on excel : asking explorer 9 or higher needed. May be it needed Service Pack which is not available on MS site anymore.

Took one C++ class, I did okay but did not continue. I was am happy with accounting but turnover is very high due to outsourcing.

Although I have never used DAX, looking at the screenshot, seems like you are attempting to use your windows credential to connect to windows rather than database as I see windows selected on the left pane. Also with that option selected, unless you are on the same domain as host, not sure if it is going to work with your windows credential. Were you give any username and password? If so, you might want to select Database on left side pane and try the username/password you were given.
