i think you should start as a SQL Developer and than move into DBA. Unless you have a specific reason for doing DBA.

@SolveSQL the reason for choosing DBA is I am from non IT background and I have no programming experience. Do you know any consultancies that provide decent training as well as placement? If so, I would be highly appreciate your help. Thanks.

SQL Solver, why can't a non IT background person can take a DBA training and look for a job? It is mandatory to go for development first, according to you? I don't understand, can you make it clear.

not necessarily...and i am not trying to be negative here. But as a DBA you have to know how to work on queries and also have to have a good understanding of DB design structure. This is on top of all you DBA stuff.

And yes, i have seen people go for DBA to begin with. But success rate seems to be higher with someone with Developer Experience.

badguy, I think you are misunderstanding roles between DBA and SQL developer. Most DBA position require advance knowledge than SQL developer.

You need to know every thing that SQL developer knows plus some. I don't know how consultancy and training works but I would never trust anyone without knowledge in SQL to be DBA.

Guys, I am really confused here at this point. I am following some dhoti master and he is regularly saying that it is not necessary to have a programming skills or to be a SQL developer. According to him, if I don't have programming skill I can skip SQL developer and go for DBA, and this is what I'm doing right now. The purpose of struggle is to survive as you all know. Please shed some light on this situation. Whether I'm doing right or wrong. I'm gaining confidence, in the meantime looking for consultancy for marketing. Come on, please have your opinion. I appreciate it.

I think that dhoti is lying. DBA is more critical job than SQL development job. You have to prepare yourself for 24/7 support as well as it requires deep architecture of db system. Additionally you need to have some scripting knowledge should there require some automation tasks, continous monitoring of production servers ,query optimization , sizing of db , security and most of all you can't make mistakes. So they pay you more for dba compared to developer but that comes with more responsibility. A small mistake can cost you a job. So make sure to prepare yourself for all kind of crisis that you ae going to encounter in the field. I have seen couple of firing incidents within my friend circle because of some minor incidents working as dba. It seems like you only have done training but dba is kind of job which requires few years of hands on experience. If that is the case try developer job first. You will thank yourself. Sorry I don't know any marketing consultancies.
