I am moving to Framingham, MA within a week for my new job. So I am looking for help in accomodation. Since I don't know much about the place, any information like public transportation, apartment, roommate etc will be highly appreciated. How is public transportation ? How essential to have a car out there? Thanks in advance for any help.

Hi there, I lived in Framingham, MA for 3 years back in 2007. As per your questions, pretty much everything depends on where you're working. As far as I know, public transportation exists but it's very limited (again it depends on where you're working). If I may ask, who's your employer? There are couple of big companies based in Framingham and if you happen to be one of the new employees for any one of those companies then at least you have some access to public transportation.

I don't think there are a whole lot of Nepalis living in Framingham. I've heard there are Nepali students in Framingham State University (FSU) but not sure. The Hindu temple is also near Framingham (in Ashland) so I assume there is a big Indian community close by (so automatically, I would think there is a decently big Nepali community as well). Unless you're planning on waiting quite a while for your ride home -> office and vice versa, I would highly recommend getting a car.

Framingham is a pretty decent location accessible to a LOT of shopping and restaurants. It's not as hip as Boston for obvious reasons but it's not a bad place either. Having said that though, I wouldn't call downtown Framingham a safe place either.

Where are you based now? Once you let me know your employer, I can tell you which apartments you should consider and which ones to avoid. Let me know if you need anything else.

Thanks guys for your valuable suggestion. Currently I am in Oklahoma so driving there will take me around 30 hours. That's why I am debating myself whether to drive or fly there. My work is in Staples headquarters. It seems like if I can get apartment in Jefferson Hill Apt, I can take bus to the work.I came to know abt Jefferson Hill Apt through Sulekha.com.Beside that I don't know much abt other apartment and I hope you guys will me help on that. Can you please also tell me how expensive the living cost out there?
In case I do take my car, I don't have to live nearby my office. So can you guys suggest me the reasonable apt within half an hour drive? I don't want to drive that far until and unless it is very important to have car out there. Thank you guys for your input

If you have a car then I would like to suggest bring it or drive it (if the car is running well , it may not be rusty as in MA). You cannot rely on bus system and you will be handicapped which is hated by car owners.

Thanks for your suggestion guys...I heard like car insurance is quite expensive out tthere. Do u guys have any idea?? Also how wworse the winter gets there? I am not used to driving on snowy condition.

Jefferson Hill Apartment is probably the closest to Staples. Some Indians actually walk to/from that place (not recommended since this winter seems to be a nasty one). There are a lot of apartments near Staples (www.bayberryhillestates.com, www.sovereignapartments.com ) which I won't say are the best but are definitely resonable apartments to stay so I recommend you take a look at www.Rent.com or something to get a better perspective. 1 BR apartments on an Average is around $900-1200. The living cost is pretty resonable and it's not as expensive as Boston of course. As a cautionary note, I don't recommend renting an apartment in Downtown Framingham though.

As MaGorkhe suggested, definitely bring your car if you have one. You dont have to drive 30 hrs straight, you know! Stretch that 30 hrs drive into a 3 to 4 day trip; i'm sure you'll enjoy the ride. Winter is usually rough in North East so prepare for to drive in snow. If you are cautious, it's not as bad as it may sound. BTW, the car insurance is one of the highest in US so unless you have a significant (and good) driving record in MA (which you clearly dont have), be prepared for a slight-significant increase in car insurance.

Also, I'm sure there are Nepalese working at Staples, try to reach out to them if possible. They'll probably have a better perspective than us.
