hi all,

i am looking for a job and H1 sponsorship. But lot of the companies are not willing to sponsor one. What if i tell them that i will pay all the expenses and they do their paperwork only, will this negotiation work? I badly need your advice? Has anyone encountered similar situation before? Please help me!!

Thanks,

Admirer

admirer, many have encountered situation like yours.  some companies have policy not to sponsor working visa, some do and they take care of cost associated with as well.  however, some companies do paper works and you need to take care of the cost.  However, the rule has changed now and your company needs to pay the cost for filing.  you can ask them to pay you less until they recover their money that is going to spend on your filing process.  make them understand that its a simple process and costs less than 3000 dollars if you do regular processing.

I don't think you necessarily increase your hiring chances if you tell them that you'll pay your H-1 expenses. Heck, even if the company *desperately wants* to pay your H-1 expenses, you might not get an H-1 given the mess we are in right now.

Here's what I will recommend:

If the company has a history of sponsoring H-1, tell them that you will need it.

If the company doesn't have a history of sponsoring and they are not willing to do it for you and your getting that job depends on that factor alone, then tell them you don't need any sponsorship. ONE YEAR is a whole lot of time to make people change their minds. If they like your work (and even you as a person), I can say with a reasonable confidence that they will try to keep you!

admirer,

go and talk to different Indian consultancies; they usually sponsor H1Bs every year. You might get lucky and get your H1B application selected in the lottery next year! You'll most likely have to cover all the H1B filling and attorney fees with them, which is usually any where from $2000 to $3500. So, Good Luck to you.
