not pokhara, because

-let it remain a tourist city the way it is,the size is small and our lakes will be more polluted, air travel would be worse if they ever decide to build an airport.

Somewhere in the terai is a good idea.

because- lots of land, lots of resources- it has easy access to India and all that too!

Personally,I don't think changing capital city will make much of a difference, the new city will simply turn out to be what Kathmandu is today. I think we need to de-centralize various levels of power and the way our economy works. I'd say we need to make other cities industrial cities, like what Hetauda and Biratnagar originally were (I am not sure about the current status). We basically need more industries to create more jobs. My two cents..

Like Uto said, the idea behind changing capital is not just for the sake of changing it. The motive is to de-centralize the economy of the country. And that can be achieved by many other ways than just changing the capital. The initiative should start from government level to create an attractive incentive in areas such as Biratnagar and Hetauda so that the investors are more likely to invest in these areas. Looking at our southern neighbor, they have so called "economic zones" in cities like Hyderabad where investors get years and years of tax break for just opening their office there and building a community of its own.

If we do so in these already industrial zones there will be a lot of outflow of companies and jobs to these areas thus developing the overall economic condition of the local zone.

I think that Chitwan is the best option if the capital city has to be changed. Here are some advantages.

1.Centrally located in between eastern and western part of Nepal. And also located in between hilly and terai region.

2.  Plain extensive  land and abundant source of water. It can hold the huge population of capital.

3. Availability of Physical infrastructure like, hospital , college, transportation, power, communication etc (Bharatpur Medical College,  Rampur Campus,Cancer Hospital, Mahendra Highway etc)

4. It's the model district where people migrated from all 75 districts in the past, so got the nick name 76  district of Nepal. Wide diversity of people with different caste, culture and ethnicity.

5. Easy to interact with the Indian authorities in the future because  South Chitwan has a border with India

6. District of intellectual people and leaders.Every revolution has been emerged from Chitwan in the past

7. District of natural biodiversity like Chitwan national park, religious place like Devghat, Narayani River, recreational place like Nagar Ban, Maula Kaalika Temple etc.

8. Industrial and Business Center  Tandi Bazaar and Narayangadh

9.Agricultural hub for Poultry and cash crops.

10.Traditional and welcoming people of Chitwan.

So, why not Chitwan guys?

It's really funny. It could  be possible as we know Prachanda's first priority visit is Beijing where as Girija's first priority visit is Delhi right after each inauguration ceremony of Prime Minister. That makes sense.

Don't you think so?

Actually changing capital will change a lot in the country. Lot of countries did change their capital for various reasons: like new york was the capital of US before it was DC,  calcutta was capital of india before it was delhi, Kyoto was the capital of japan before it was tokyo. Especially for undeveloped country like us and country with development centered only in the capital, it is very important they change the capital. Firstly development will florish in another part of the country too. Not only will it develop the new capital but also will develop all the surrounding area to this new place. There will be new thinking since it will be a fresh new capital. People will start moving to other places beside kathmandu. There will be another place in nepal where security will be strong too. The value of the land and houses in kathmandu will go down because there will be another bigger choice where the price will be reasonable. People's living standard in that place and its surrounding places will go up as well. There might be more air traffic in nepal. Tourist will not always say that the capital of nepal is so filthy since it will be a new capital. We might change the views of our tourist friends of different countries.

You dont have to change the capital right away. It can be a ten years programm. You can just change some of the department to this new capital. Like department of forrest, department of mines etc. So slowly you move each and every department in 5-10 years period. So you move something out of kathmandu then lot of things will move slowy and steadily to the new capital. Especially we need development outside kathmandu. Personally i think pokhara is quite develop and beautiful for us to go and put our new capital . It is like our natual beauty of our country. So i would think somewhere in chitwan or hetauda or some other place. I would prefer inner terai than outer terai.

I think changing the capital will change many thing.
Kathmandu valley is already over populated and polluted. Even to preserve the valley and its resident, Kathmandu should no longer be a capital city.
The new capital city should be somewhere in no mans land, where there is not much facilities or resources. Take an example from United States. they built a new city for Atlanta Olympics in 1996. We should be doing the same.
A well planned capital city, should be something the government be thinking now.
