I have a question on Extension of Visitor Visa, if anyone has passed thru this situation (I hope many).

It appears like the Current Processing time for Application for Extension of visitor visa is lagged almost by 7-8 months.

If anybody on Visitor visa B1/B2 wants to extend their stay for 2-3 months, even if they apply for extension, they will not be able to get final decision from USCIS. After expiry of first six months of stay can a visitor stay legally with a receipt notice??

What happens when returning? What turned back at airport as I-94 would have been sent to USCIS along with extension of stay application.

If there extension is not approved for a person staying with receipt notice beyond first six months expiry, will he/she will be considered illegal?

Will there be any problem to travel back with receipt notice (Visa-5 yrs multy) via airport like London?

Please advise. Thanks in advance

My mother went back home after 8 months of stay and before she received her approval letter. The approval letter came after she left though. She didn't have any problem reentering the US. I don't know about legal/illegal issue but I think agents at the port of entry don't care (may be too busy) much as long as the person has a valid visa. Having said that, this may not apply to all. Just my experience. Hope this helps.

Thanks HomLal for your experience which is useful to me. May I ask couple of other questions:

How many days/months earlier did you apply for extension before expiry of 1st 6 months. It is said that to apply too much earlier (3 months) may not be good.

Did your mother turn in anything (I-94) at Airport when she left?

Did you send Original I-94 along with application?

Thanks in advance. your answer will help me to move forward.
