One of the best acceptance speeches ever. Don't you agree? See it for yourself, if you missed it last night and/or if you like this character. A little vulgarity involved, but again, hey, it was on network TV, so it can't be that bad, can it? And it is, after all, Borat, aka Sacha Baron Cohen.
Borat's acceptance speech might have been good. But in my opinion, the best one of the lot was that of Hugh Laurie. 'Never noticed this charismatic guy before as I don't watch much of TV dramas.
Here goes his speech (hopefully this one shows the complete video since I am not capable of testing it at the moment).
Here is what www.time.com had to cover on the Golden Globe Winners' Acceptance Speeches.
An excerpt from the article set forth ".. But for sheer aplomb, the Golden Globe for best Golden Globe speech has to go to... Hugh Laurie! His comments deserve to be reprinted in near-fullness: "I am speechless. I'm literally without a speech. It seems odd to me that in the weeks leading up to this event, when people are falling over themselves to send you free shoes and free cufflinks and free colonic irrigations for two, nobody offers you a free acceptance speech. It just seems to me to be a gap in the market. I would love to be able to pull out a speech by Dolce & Gabbana." .. " For the full article, please CLICK below:
I just had to cut and paste the paragraph that preceded the one 'AbsolutelyObsolete' cut and pasted above from, of course, Time.com.
Our award for Best Acceptance Speech goes, ex aequo, to two Cambridge grads. Baron Cohen simultaneously raised the bar for gross-out verbal art and the hackles of NBC censors when he said that, in making Borat, "I saw some dark parts of America, an ugly side of America... I refer of course to the anus and testicles of my costar Ken Davitian. Ken, when I was in that scene and I... saw your two wrinkled golden globes on my chin, I thought to myself, I better win a bloody award for this." He then described, in awesome olfactory detail, the nude wrestling scene, while cutaway shots showed the swarthy Davitian blithely guzzling a bottle of wine. Baron Cohen ended with a heartfelt "thank you to every American who has not sued me so far."
Too much PC on their motive of Golden Globe. It's become more political and a statement for affairmative action. Movies like "Ray" getting award over "Hotel Rwanda" and now "DreamGirl" getting so much hype over other important issues of the world, let's put it this way, "Babel" should sweep away any award there is right now, not beacuse it's of Brad. It's bigger issue. Leo got nominated twice in the same category but didn't win a thing. Come on man, "Blood Diamond" has opened up a new awareness to the people especially to American who believe "Diamonds are Women's best friend". Yes, right. Somebody somehwere gets killed for a small piece of that stone. How many have seen the real HongKong movie that "The Departed" is based on? The Chinks are not getting any coverage at all. I personally don't give a crap about these awards. It's hypes and mainstream feel good entertainment. That's it.
