Hello all, I am M.A. student in Nepal, English major. I will be completing my first year in a few months. I am planning to go to the US, but I have some questions regarding the credit transfers and the scholastic tests(?) I have to take. 1. Is my 3 years BA and 1 year MA will make me eligible to start MA in the US University? 2. If yes to #1, I am sure I have to take GRE, but if not, I will still be considered as Undergraduate transfer? So, then, I should take SAT or GRE?

dear YOu brother THere are couple of university that considers master degree for those holding 3 years degree in nepal. check out one www.findlay.edu( type findlay university in google) www.uab.edu( alabama) there are some more you better have GRE. i guess, for findlay you can take gre when u come here you need toefl not sat i am pretty sure your master's credit won't transer unless u get degree in nepal so don't go behind transferring rather getting admission in the USA. another option will be apply here in usa for undergrad in English major and you think about transferring your credit from your 3 years undergrad good luck jayamatadi

Jayamatadi, thank you for the information. But why'd not my first year MA credit trasferred? Is it because, you have to have a degree or it won't get transferred? JaiHindu, it is ridiculous you say that students from Asia don't know what MLA format. Maybe you knew it after you went abroad, but I am accustomed to using it. If you are not very much into plagraism, I can help you work cite, if you need it. Moreover, I prefer APA to MLA.

Why so much negativity? Anyway... I am quite sure you have to take GRE. The Math part might not be as important in your case, but you should be able to score high in English sections. I am not sure if there is a subject GRE for English, but if there is, you might have to take that test too. Despite being an MA student in English, you might have to take TOEFL too. I am sure you know what schools you would like to go to. Being a grad student in Nepal, you must've done due diligence. Some schools allow you to go directly into the PhD program, so you might want to explore that. English majors are not much in demand in labor market. So, be sure to attend the highly reputed school. Otherwise, it will be difficult to make a living after you graduate. Well, good luck. It will be nice to have another Samrat Upadhyaya amongst us.

Thank you so much, Riten. I heartly appreciate your telling me. However, I doubt I will make another Smarat Upadhyay and blatantly arrest another/other God/s in KTM. I still have few more queries.. The scenario here is I am transferring from Nepal after the bachelors and with 1-year MA. I need to know if I will be starting as a graduate student or still as a undergraduate (at least for 1 semester). I know I must have TOEFL, and for which, I have started to flipping through the Barron's books but still not sure if I shold start preparing GRE or SAT. Can the university audit the courses I have taken here and tell me where do stand on American degree plan before I get admitted?

To address your query, I am afraid only the particular school you apply to can answer your question. Why not write directly to the admission offices of the schools you would like to apply to and get their policy... the proverbial "direct from the horse's mouth"?
