i have a question guys, suppose I have taken classes until may of this year. so, i can skip summer semester and can continue from fall again without being out of status. how long i can stay in usa without doing anything if i would like to skip fall semester as well. i know after the OPT expires, one can stay here for 2 months, but before graduation, if someone wants to stay here without going to school, how long one can stay here, is it 2 months for them as well of one has to go back immediately? thanks a lot for your response in advance.

I think you can stay at least for a semester without going to school. However, you have to re-instate your status from INS and you have to show some genuine reason for not going to school e.g., proof of your medical condition, etc.

You can skip school for a year, provided you have genuine reasons (one eg. being medical condition). You cannot skip school for more than a year even if you are seriously sick. Hope this helps.
