The mass movement in Nepal is stirring controversy and gaining notoriety around the globe. From the narrow streets of Kathmandu to the UN Plaza in New York City, Nepalis have not backed down from the cries for a Republic. Before critiquing about anything, I would like to say that the people have suffered and are still suffering and the desire for freedom and democracy is a genuine one. Whatever the King's agenda maybe, after an obscure announcement to grant power back to the people, I am not very sure if perpetuating the movement is going to solve the dilemma. I have been in touch back and forth with some of my folks in Nepal the last two weeks and they tell me that a lot of people who have joined the mass rallies don’t even know what a Republic means. Nepal is suffering from a classic case of "Group Think." People who don't have any jobs or were hanging out at the pubs and smoking pot in Nagarkot now have something to amuse themselves. Alas, in the end it is the people who will have to suffer. How long can the public continue to buy lemons for 40 rupees a piece? The International community is not going to support this. We should try to mitigate the situation and stop destroying lives and what remains of a shattered economy. It is nice to see the youth be so involved in attempting to shape the country's future, but, trying to get a job and working hard would be a better way of going about doing that. I am supportive of being more strategic rather than barbaric. I just hope that in the end this doesn't turn out to be a "full of sound and fury signify nothing” type of thing.

A child cries with hunger, his mother doesn't have anything to feed him and goes at the corner and start sobbing. She forgets her hunger seeing her baby cry for food. It rains and their roof has pores and wets their bed and her baby cries again and she doesn't know what to do except " Suicide". This protest is aimed at the very "BAsics needs" to survive. Where would a youth go and find a job when everywhere they need connection for a job, "qualification" doesn't matter anymore virtually. If you are of lower cast or mongolian then you have more troubles finding a suitable job unless you decide to open some woolen kinda industry. Instead of going to skool, children in far district regions go to work in their 20 yard field just to feed their family once a day. people drink, smoke pot in nagarkot or become drug adicts because they believe that there is nothing they can do, sure now they have a target, i guess. If you had given them job, provided them with food and shelter then we didn't have to see this day when people fire at their own people on street protesting hunger. since nobody cared" their only choice was to let the rest of the world know what is really happning in Nepal" We get billions of dollars in aid but they eat it all up before it reaches poor people, its a protest against that. Its not our option or choice, its our fate. WE have to do what we have to do. what ever may be the outcome of this we'll try to make sure that people won't have to be embarrassed and won;t have to die because of hunger. If its republic, then so be it...i just want to see my people happy again. they have a hope and dream in their mind when they protest against tyrany, if other neighboring countries are being developed then at the same time we are falling backward, there has to be something wrong, people are just trying to correct that thing, if you disagree then you will be the only one, because we have to adopt darwinism" Survival of fittest" , people are protesting to get that opportunity to be the "fittest one" Hail Nepalese people who are protesting.

The question is not about the prices of lemon, but you have to understand that even though there may be hundreds of thousands of people protesting on the streets against the King, there are people who are at home, handicapped and immobilized. The Banks are closed, people can't withdraw money, food is running out and we are not gaining any International Support. The Maoists seem the least bit concerned about the toll that this movement is taking on the livelihood of people. Nepal could very well turn into a failed state. Have you been watching the International Coverage on Nepal? The media's tone in analyzing Nepal, is almost humiliating to the country and its people.

we will gain support in few days, midea is not saying humuliating

1) battered yet defiant------that was the word i saw in CNN.COM
Look, nobody likes if our people cry, we cry tears of blood. Remember the time earlier to the when Maoist came, when someone dies it was a great issue then, now these people have made us feel like we are heartless, It's very hard to analyze sitting abroad and talking shits---I totally agree with you M5, you are absolute right but its just that time is not right to talk about these things. We have already crossed the line you are saying, now there is no turing back, they will analyze us as coward and selfish if we go back from what we have got right now.

what we WANT IS --THESE SEVEN PARTIES TO ISSUE A NAME FOR PRIME MINISTER
WITHIN FEW HOURS CHANGE THE CONSTITUTION WITH FOLLOWING AGENDA
1) FREEDOM OF SPEECH AND PRESS
2) KINGS ROLE IN GOVERNMENT
3) JUDICIARY SYSTEM WITH EQUAL POWER TO CHECK AND BALANCE.( TO STOP CORRUPTION)
4) MILITARY AND POLICE HEAD, PRIME MINISTER
5) KING AS CEREMONIAL LIKE IN ENGLAND.

Avista, those things you bring up like Bill of Rights and Separation of powers sound great. However, even if you have a great system in place you still need quality personnel to run it effectively and efficiently. Who are going to be the leaders implementing such profound democratic ideas? Girija or Deuba? Baburam Bhattarai? If we rewrite the constitution and create a new one that is socially inclusive, we better hope that it works. If 10 years down the road we come back to the same crossroads, then the people by expereince will want to come back and rewrite the constitution again, because it was done before. What I am saying is that the political parties and the Maoists have no strategy whatsoever, and past failures in this case are very much indicative of future success. We need quality leaders and visionaries as much as we need a quality constitution.
