Hey guys, I am getting this message. I have formatted my hard disk and installed windows from my roommates' CD. What will happen after 26 days? Is there anyway i can get around this activation. Replies (Help) will be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

After 26 days you cannot use windows and if you want to use it again you will have to format the drive and re-install it again and use it for another 30 days. There used to be hack available for older versions of windows but not sure about the new ones.

If its a legal copy, it should work even if you choose to activate..........Also, I think if its Win 2000 or older, it should be fine....XP won't work due to Genuine Software Activation Tool...

What your friend gave you is an evaluation copy which is intended for evaluation only and it is not a purchased copy.

If it is a legal copy, then you can always call the number on your screen that comes up when it asks you to activate. After you activate, use Norton Ghost or similar software to create a disk image. Use the disk image you created next time you want fresh XP on your machine. It won't ask you for activation at that time.

Hey why BISWA why dont you just download a copy of the XP from the net, burn it in CD and install a fresh XP? that will solve all your problem. The XP can be downloaded from any where. Its Pirated so decision is yours. Seems you are gonna get it any ways.

That copy of XP was for 1 time use only, provided by the department (university). He also forget about that. What happened today was funnier. It still had 24 days left. I thought i would save my files over weekend. And reinstall XP or whatever. But the windows will not log in. Either i have to activate or log out. I reinstalled XP thinking it will not mess up my files, but .... anyways i will work on my two term papers all over again. I did not like my earlier work anyway...lol I guess i will not have much time to pass on sajha now.

its a easy fix man.. call the number and they will ask u to read the product key. (you know where its at) once u read it they will ask u what model and brand ur comp is and where u got the cd from .. just tell them it came with the computer... they're gonna ask u where u bought it and tell them some store name like best buy or something like that. after that they'll give u the number... and all u need to do it punch in as they tell u... oh and by the way, they will ask u if the software is installed on anyother computer and just tell 'em no. u are good to go... thank u for calling microsoft, u have a wonderful day is what u're gonna hear... lol... hope u get it.

The problem is software u have installed is bundled with ur frien's laptop. Operating sys like XP won't work in other computers when it comes bundled with certain hardware, for eg here it is laptop. Similarly, for eg if u buy SAMSUNG CD or DVD writer then there comes a bundled software which won't works with other hardwares of other vendors. So easy way of this is to find one pirated software. Use Limewire or other P2P software and download pirated version. That's all. ENJOY BISWA.

naah.. follow the process that i guided u... its not a big deal at all.. al computers come with a version of windows at first and when u install or re-install the same version or different one, its going to ask u for the activation code. thats all it is.. call them up and follow the steps from there... u will not have problems at all.. and u won't have to back up ur files or folders or anything...
