Need some help.
Is there anyone who holds job that requires secret clearance. It applies to only US citizens.
I am not talking about public trust (SF 85) but SF 86.

What is interim and how long does it take?

Thank you.

It takes 6-8 months sometimes 1 year for approval if you are cleared from 10 years back investigation, which will give you SECRET Clearance (10 Yrs)  have to be a US CITIZEN, TS (5 Yrs) will take another 6-12 months depending again on investigation and investigators. SCI the same. Good Luck!

Interim clearance starts as soon as they have all your info submitted via SF86, you will get a letter from Defense Industrial Security Clearance office (DISCO) if rejected due to crime/police record if not you are goooooooood.

sanug: Thanks for your info. That eases my confusion. I don't have any record in crime/police. Now just waiting for Interim approval from DISCO..

Make sure to take advantage of SECRET/TS/SCI from your employer - that will take you places even with no degree...

sanuG - My wife and kids are still green card holders. They are in the process of naturalization waiting for interview. Will their status impact on my interim clearance?

It don't if you are in process of them getting naturalized, but sometimes when your immediate family are back home it will take longer as they do investigate.
