Hi,

Can someone please tell me how long it takes for me to get green card after I get marriage with my future husband when I am in US? He has a green card only.

If I am in Nepal is it possible for me to come to US in dependent visa? If yes how long does it take?

what's credit gotta do with immigration. i have never heard that before. yes, maybe public charges such as filing disabilities etc maybe asked and can be held against petition .. my personal experience with immigration and knowing many others who i know personally who have brought their family members over with fked up credit don't let me believe on that crap.. sorry...

@ Kalopani : Yes credit is checked actually but as in your economic status if you can afford to keep the person who is visiting from abroad . They do your background check which includes your job and earning too . Another fact about sponsoring is Luck too sometimes you don't need to go through hassle some people are easily granted Visa i have seen it happened . Well i never sponsored anyone yet but i have seen my friends sponsoring their families / and few other Nepali families where i used to live few yrs back .

Ipwn was the petition family based immigration or some h1b or non immigrant such as one in f1 trying to bring their spouse. Of course being able to support is one criteria but as long as you have a job,above the poverty line and you have been paying taxes with no crime and public charges credit should not matter. Of course it all depends on ur luck and the nature of the officer dealing with ur case.

Well most of people who come through H1B gets GC applied by same company who sponsored them and after certain time of GC those people can sponsor their family without issue just their work record is enough .

Usually people include their Employment status documents with sponsor letters otherwise credits checking is just formality for processing i doubt if they even do check it . Everything depends luck and nature of person who is applying . Young people who are trying to come through their relatives sponsor letter for certain time in visiting visa has very less chances to get Visa most of them are denied saying they will stay back in US and work .

F1's can sponsor their relatives for Graduation's only .

Fair enough. However I thought some f1 could bring their spouse and children under f2 visa ,no?

Oh Yes they sure can but they have to maintain their F1/F2 Status until then you can travel in and out of USA. If the F1 Visa expires F2 will be out of status too in that case.

Until recently, spouse of a GC holder had to wait for almost 4 years or just wait till the GC spouse becomes a citizen and then wait another 6 months. However, in the last few months the processing for spouse of GC holders has changed. If your spouse applies for I-130 now in October, the I-130 processing will take 4-5 months. See here.

Once approved, your spouse can file for Green card right away for you since the visa numbers are now available for Spouse of GC Holders category. See Visa bulletin here. I assume, you could be here in Green card as early as March 2010. Good Luck.
