I think its better to work in OPT than in H1B since you will save the 33% taxes. But if you have intention of applying GC, then better to get H1B and ask your employer to start the process.Further with OPT you don't have any problems changing your job either you don't like job, boss, company etc because you are not tied with employer. With H1B there is serious problems if you don't get job when you want or have to change the employer and you don't find one within a month time.So there are pros and cons on everything so weigh them according to your interest and situation and act accordingly.

ManKokura,

Congratulation! on getting the job in this dismal economy.

You mentioned you just started working that means you have very little clue about the inner working of the company and your team/upper management.

Why do you want to tie the knot so quickly?

Work there for another year see how you like the job, see if your contribution is being noticed and determine which direction the company is heading.

Once you have the above sorted out then might be the right time.

I wouldn't worry about the 33% tax as mentioned by Gothalo because you are beginning your career so your major goal is not to make money but to gain experience.

But he makes a good point as being in OPT gives you a major flexibility because you are not tied to an employer and can switch job without any problems.

Don't quote me on this but I am thinking that you also get 3 months grace period to find another job while in OPT.

I wish you all the best!

Regards,
Incandescent
