Why only after YCL? Have you forgotten chakre Milan? He has recently come out of jail. I have read somewhere that he will be doing politics very soon and he is going to run for Member of Parliament in coming general election. Since no one will vote for him, he will require money to buy votes and for other “Samajik karya” to influence dumb public. Since, he can not do kidnapping after he starts his political career, this was his, probably, last kidnapping attempt to collect large sum in ransom. But Unfortunately due to some hiccups he could collect little more than one “Karod” in ransom that is far less than what he was asking for.

Rahuldai,
Dr Devkota pays 13m to free daughter from kidnappers: reports
Neurosurgeon Dr Upendra Devkota has paid a ransom of Rs 13 million to free his kidnapped daughter Megha on Tuesday.
According to media reports, Megha, a 10th grader of Rato Bangala School, was kidnapped by an unidentified gang Saturday from her house at Hepali Height, Bansbari.
Reports further said police had cordoned off the area where the victim was believed to have been kept, but on Dr Devkota's request, they pulled out after the kidnappers threatened to kill the girl.
The deal to pay the ransom was finalized after police moved back. nepalnews.com ia aug 07 08

welcome to a "new nepal" characterized by anarchy, chaos, fuel/water/power crisis, abductions, killings, insecurity, acute poverty, hunger, nepotism, communal violence... you name it. i would much rather perfer the "old nepal" which, in hindsight, was the golden era of nepal and unfortunately for us i think the best days are well and truly behind us. coming back to the topic at hand, what further distresses me is that by agreeing to pay the collossol ransom to the kidnappers the victim has actaully done more harm than good because this will strongly encourage the other criminals to follow suit.

Sayami, Well said. I feel the same way. I know there are lots of us who magnify the news of Nepal and talk about how bad it is but do not care about the crimes that happens in the American city they live in. Kidnapping is becoming a big problem for Nepal. By reading the published news it is clear that the police personnel was also involved it could be the PSO (personal security officer - police personnel provided by the government) for the doctor's safety. We all should condemn the heinous crime of kidnapping. A little girl was kidnapped at a gun point from her own room in front of the family. Can you imagine the trauma they had to face?? Dr. Devkota is one of the many who studies in villages and is a successful renowned world class neurosurgeon. Hats off to him.

Not to defend the criminals but what is left to do In Kathmandu???????....I mean These leaders and maoist brought these outsiders in hoards of trucks and busses to surround the royal palace, break curfue, destroy property, spread fear. NOW they are stuck in the Valley.....they gotta eat, sleep and live.....and they have tasted to power in fear and terror.............That was what they were taught.......NOW THE LEADERS DONT CARE ABOUT THEM ...THEY GOT TO FEND FOR THEM SELVES and they do it the best and easiest way they know that is CRIME....AND most of the crimes go unnoticed because they still answer to some high political power.....who kinda have the leaders of thugs in their pocket................LIKE I SAID BEFORE................I WOULD LOVE TO CHAT WITH THOSE PEOPLE WHO ARE STILL SURE THAT NEW NEPAL IS GOING THE RIGHT DIRECTION.......

Maddogg, The high profile criminal activities might be linked to political power, kathmandu might me heading towards anarchism, Nepal might be heading towards total destruction but these "might" will not get us any where. I DO have optimism about Nepal, it doesn't mean that I agree with what ever is going on. On the other hand I am not one of those who fully consider that Nepal is going towards the right direction. There are some good sides and some bad about current socio-political situation. The only good side I see is unpresendented political awareness all accross Nepal. This will surely bring positive changes. The bad side I see, I mean really bad side is that we are (esp Kathamndu) becoming second Bihar. Our leaders are appointed, directed and supported by India. Nepalease people are only decoys in this political landscape. The Maobadis, Nepali Congress, UML, Madhesi Forum are all indian envoys and act as Indian agents when it comes to the Indian interest. Aside from all the Indian agents that we have as our current leaders, Maobadis are the only ones who have stood up against the mighy south at times, so far. I am sure this will change as the political awareness is getting better everyday. People have stopped saying "jun jogi aye pani kanai chireko". They feel responsible for the elected leaders. As the Indianization of our leaders is paramount at this time I am sure it will change. The recent opposition from the people about the VPs Hindi oath proves this fact. Pardon me I am going off course with this discussion, let us focus on the kidnapping and the crimes that is going on. Organized crime is a big problem everywhere. How can Nepal be an exception? The law enforcement agencies inside Nepal and International crime fighiting agencies should all work together in curbing the crimes. The high profile crime that we are talking about will have international impact. Let me close my statement by saying that I do not FULLY agree that Nepal is surely going toward the right direction but surely it is moving ahead.

Not to forget... Dr. Devkota's wife ran away with the servant (or
driver), of course, for sexual satisfaction . Because being a busy doctor,
Dr. could not satisfy his wife. He thought it's worthy to save people's
lives than satisfying wife's bio-physical needs.
Saving lives as a doctor is a worthy
service/accomplishments, as well this the profession brought tons of Nrs. into
his pockets. And this money now became curse to him. Hiis daughter
was kidnapped, and he had to use that money to release her. What a paradox.
Certainly, this episode might have forced Dr Devkota to think again and
again, why this happened. His service to people after all doesn't matter a thing to the
kidnappers, thugs, or the cronies of his schoolmate, Dr. Baburam. This event must have left
a deep scar in Dr. Devkota. Therefore, it is understandable why there was no one
his residence when police went to meet him and his daughters to check upon their well-beings after the daughter was released.
Dr. Devkota, I think will send his daughters to western countries
(After all, Dr, Baburam being a smart ass, sent his daughters to study
in UK, while he himself was terrorizing Neaplese from India). Not only
that Dr. Devkota might not even practice in Nepal anymore. There is a
possibility that
his whole family will migrate to USA.. and Dr. Devkota will be
operating leaders and politicians of USA, rather than Nepalese leaders
(puppets of India) and then earn $1.3 M rather than Nrs. 1.3M....
So, Nepricanes. You guys did right.... you left Nepal.. and you are all
settled in USA.Never had to undergo the kind of situation Upendra
Devkota or other nepalese faced in Nepal. But look at the people like
Dr. Devkota, who eagerly
want to serve their beloved country.. and in the end, they will also
leave the Motherland.

Police nab alleged kidnapper of Dr. Devkota's daughterPolice have arrested an alleged kidnapper of the daughter of renowned neurosurgeon Dr Upendra Devkota, in Kathmandu. Hem Bahadur Magar 'Hemanta Gore' of Dhankuta who allegedly kidnapped the 10th grader from her house at Bansbari ten days earlier, was presented before media at Nepal Police Club Wednesday evening. He was arrested fromNakkhu, Lalitpur. Police said Magar was the mastermind of the kidnapping ring that had released the 15-year-old girl after her family reportedly paid hefty sum in ransom. Police also recovered two pistols and 33 rounds of bullet, Rs 2 lakh 43 thousand cash, two plastic hand grenades, police uniforms, one car, four motorbikes, one scooter and canyoning ropes from kidnappers. "They were arrested based on the information that we received. We located the flat in which the victim was kept hostage. We also identified the kidnappers and arrested one of them," said SSP Upendra Kanta Aryal at the press meet. Officials said four other members of the kidnapping ring are at large and that the police department is preparing to issue red corner notices against them along with Rs 50 thousand bounty for their arrest. Police had formed a high-level committee to investigate the kidnapping case that received wide media coverage. Meanwhile, Dr. Devkota, who was present at the press meet, urged general public to cooperate with the police to end such crime from society. "Instead of seeking the help of legitimate authority, if we try to buy our safety from local dons, then such incidents will never end," Dr. Devkota said. Praising Nepal Police for their efforts and efficiency, Dr. Devkota urged all to advocate for better facilities for the police. "Had Nepal Police had the latest equipment on locating telephone calls which only costs around Rs 40 million, they could have nabbed the kidnappers within moments," he said briefing how his family had voice-recorded the calls made by kidnappers asking for ransom. Dr. Devkota also said that he was not going anywhere outside Nepal because of this episode. nepalnews.com mk Aug 13 08

gabbar6969, I like your post other than this following part:
"Not to forget... Dr. Devkota's wife ran away with the servant (or driver), of course, for sexual satisfaction. Because being a busy doctor, Dr. could not satisfy his wife. He thought it's worthy to save people's lives than satisfying wife's bio-physical needs"
I do not think this was necessary at all.
