Asmi is an organization working to ease the livelihoods and dignified life of senior citizen of Nepal. Though Asmi was informally active since 1999 but now it is registered in District Administration Office (CDO) Kathmandu in Feb 2008. Socio economic situation is changing sharply. Traditional social values are detoriated regarding the senior citizen. Youths are migrated either abroad or urban area to tap the economic opportunities. That resulted the senior citizens are compelled to stay back in the village and serve their grand children and their properties.
Now it is aiming to develop a n ideal village where officially retired but physically still active senior citizen with different experience and expertise can work for the betterment of the poor and disadvantaged senior citizens of Nepal.

I'd really like to know how well your program works in our country where joint family structure is so strong and people live with their kids till they die. Is there a website or any other info available. I think it is about time for such concept like senior living, retirement community, hospos(???) to show up in Nepal. Good thing to know some are making initiatives.

Thanks for concern. Yes the concept of Asmi will help senior citizen by providing several programme such as home care training to care givers of the respective family. We are also planning to conduct counselor training to the concerned senior citizen as well as care givers of the same family. We are working closely with Nepal Government regarding this issue mainly preparing the policy guideline which helps senior citizens.

It is surely a good idea to help elderly citizens but the problem is how to manage them so that they don't have to put much efffort in the processs, instead their effort should be utilized to help other elderly citizens. May be the process should start from elderly citizen's home at Pashupati. Website doesn't seems to be opening yet, but the website would be a good source for collecting the donation.
