Making a Madhesi president is not a bad idea. (although I am not sure Rajaram Singh is the best choice!).  India has always used a President to appease disgruntled minority groups.  India had 3 Muslim presidents, 1 Sikh (Gyani Jail Singh during Punjab uprising),  1 low caste president (KR Narayan), and finally a woman, among others.  These presidents were intellectuals, philosophers, not so much of full-blooded career politicians (except Jail Singh)  , and even a nuclear scientist!  There are many highly educated, talented, respected and non-political Madhesis in Nepal.  It won't hurt to appoint one of those as the first president of Nepal.

The problem for Madhesis is that they do not feel they are seen as main stream Nepalese no matters how patriot they are.  They always feel they are treated like second class citizens in their own land.  We should do our best to integrate them in our society.  Appointing Madhesi Presdent is the first step towards that goal.

when we say madhesis, do we truly mean nepalese or 2-3rd generations of indian immigrants?

POROUS BORDER = u know what this means???

i would vouch a tharu for a president who is at least not an immigrant  but a indigenous tribe of Nepal.

what we need is a govt. that has equal representation of all caste and creeds but again they should be well qualified for the positions they are/will be appointed

Let me make it clear that I belong to the Madheshi community of Nepal. I am originally from Janakpur but the way I was raised I can be neutral on these issues coz the main thing is how Nepal as a whole can be benefitted.

Before coming to this issue of president, it's true that they feel being second class citizens of Nepal. Part of the reason has been the system, the narrow minded politicians, and lack of ideas. BUT THE MADHESI'S ARE EQUALLY AT FAULT. BEFORE BLAMING THE SYSTEM, THERE IS A LOT THEY CAN DO FOR THEMSELVES. It is exactly similar to Nepal as a whole when for every problem we end up blaming VIDESHI SHAKTI while ignoring to look within ourselves.

Terai has acres of arable land, easy line of access and communication, a huge potential nevertheless. Then why they r lagging behind ? Coz they had the politicians who never cared. They had elected officials who kept engaged in petty issues like separate state, separate nation, etc. They lacked vision, and idea and above all will.  True, the national govt. needs to do a lot but before that MADHESI'S NEED TO A LOT FOR THEMSELVES BEFORE BLAMING THE GOVT. JUST AS WE  NEPALESE AS A WHOLE NEED TO LOOK WITHIN OURSELVES BEFORE BLAMING OTHERS.

As far I am  concerned, It makes no difference to me who is the president. All I care is he/she must be a patriotic honest NEPALI , which caste, which community, I don't care.

To add  to what I already said, Presidents are appointed through a process, not to please one group or section of the masses.

APJ Kalaam was president because he was equally respected by all parties, and he is very liked by all and sundry in his country for his contribution to the country not just in science but also the way he carried himself. Truly a great man.

Lets see who is the best candidate for being a president ? Why and how is Ram Raja the best candidate, let's see honest explanations. Whycan't we have some body else. But onething is for sure, no one who has a track record like most of our politicians.

Madhesi landlords (MJF, TMLP, SP) are afraid that Maobadi will take away their land. So they want independent Madhesh before the landreform. And they know, they will not be able to get much through the CA process. Hence, they want to get as much as possible NOW by creating a deadlock.......!! Now, Tharus and Madhesies are preparing for a fight...........another bloodshed unwanted..........!

At this moment, i do feel that there should be a president representing Madhesi people. It would also cool down the tense in CA as well. Nice policy if you will. Good thread Mr. Shrestha you started, worth a lot to discuss.

WEll said !! it is good to make a fair person a president not just for being a Madhesi or janajati. There  is a huge variation in Nepali society and I appreciate any kind of processes that will include all of them and unify all. But, The issue of madhes as raised here is not as a voice of all indigeneous and whole population lagging behind, It is raised by so called jamindar who wants to keep all these poor madhesi ppl inside curtain and show them as a leader .Do you guys check messages from so called madhesi's leader they always threaten to go for nation halting agitation, I am always suspicious why they always used that loop whole, why this absolutely bull shit government cannot find a permanent way to stop these kinds of agitation. My fren just returned from nepal explained the situation and these fa**king madhesi leader wants to make it still worse."I donot care whoever is prezdent, but should be a nepali .not a Madhesi"should represent all not a particular cliche.........Stop!!!! Nation halting agitation and bandh you Mum fu**kers ,let ppl live '
