Chief of the Army Staffs (COAS) General Rookmangad Katawal has met Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala at the latter's official residence in Baluwatar Friday morning.

The meeting between the COAS and PM Koirala has come at a time when left parties have forged alliance not to allow Koirala to become the first president of the country.

Local FM stations quoted Baluwatar sources as saying that Katawal sought suggestion from PM Koirala whether to continue to work as army chief in the changed political context.

Katawal had reached Baluwatar for discussion without prior schedule.

According to latest amendment in the interim constitution, the Nepali Army would remain under the control of president.

The Maoists and UML have reached a consensus on formation of new government with UML taking over the post of president, a Maoist prime minister having executive powers and Nepali Congress taking over the task of constituent assembly chairman. nepalnews.com ia June 20 08
