No let up in Maoist obstructions

Kantipur Report

KATHMANDU, Jan 14 - Within less than a week of Maoists Chairman Prachanda's directive to his party cadres to stop obstructing reinstatement of police posts, Maoists chased away policemen from Khairichandpur and Baniyabhar VDC in Bardiya, Friday.

According to Inspector Shyam Bahadur Khadka, a group of 25 to 30 Maoists attacked the Baniyabhar police post at night and chased away the policemen. Maoists also looted goods from the post. "Maoists assaulted eight of our unarmed men. Some of our men ran leaving their slippers and shoes behind," said Khadka. The police team is taking shelter in the neighboring Jainagar VDC police post after the incident.

Similarly in Manthali, locals of Bethan VDC, Ramechhap, instigated by the Maoists, made 15 policemen return from the area police post Saturday. The locals also warned the police not to come to the area again. However, locals said that Maoists were misusing the locals to protest the reinstatement. "We all support the reinstatement of the posts, but we were bound to remain silent and see them (policemen) leave," said a local.

Similarly, locals returned eight policemen from Bojheni VDC, Gunsi, Friday stating that policemen's presence was not needed there. The policemen are staying in Tokarpur VDC after 300 locals pressurized them to leave the village.
Posts restored

However, in Bhojpur, Maoists reached an agreement with local authorities and the political parties to re-establish more police posts in five villages of the district. In Khotang, 13 of the total 18 police posts displaced in the district headquarters were restored, stated the District Police Office. In Morang, 11 of the total 30 displaced police posts were restored till Saturday.
Maoists abduct 2, continue atrocities

Maoists abducted two persons--Devendra Mishra and his son--from Mishra's house at Bhudala of Badauli VDC in Kapilvastu district, Saturday.

According to locals, the Maoists even beat up the two, alleging that the latter did not feed their cadres and did not give them a bicycle. Mishra's wife Rukmini said that a group of around 50 Maoists led by local cadre Shushil and Bishal picked them up from home.

Confirming the abduction, Maoist area in-charge Sherman said that his cadre took the two under control for investigation. "They (Maoist cadres) might have beat them up while arresting them," he conceded.

Meanwhile, our Sankhuwasabha correspondent reports that Maoists padlocked the house of Sher Bahadur Poudel, a teacher at local Phalidang Primary School of Deurali VDC, Bhojpur district, recently.

Appealing to local journalists for his safety after arriving at Sankhuwasabha district headquarters Saturday, Poudel said the Maoists threatened to kill him after he refused to give them an amount equal to his 12 days' salary. He also said that he reached Khandbari through the forests at great risk following the threat to his life.

In Khotang, Maoists are yet to vacate the buildings of the Animal Husbandry Office and the Agricultural Service Center at Chisapani, which they seized about six months ago.

Maoist district committee member Pratibha said that the offices would not be emptied until the Maoists joined the interim government.

Yes,
They can do things only with guns nothing more.

Did anyone happen to watch interview of the Badal (Ram Bd. Thapa) taken by Indra Lohani?
It was good interview. You can see how vague they are and it seems they are totally visionless. They have no answer when the intervier asked that Maowadi (which happens to be Khaobadi basically) are leaving Mahobadi and going after Jwala Singh. Badal couldn’t answer it when Mr. Lohani asked him how they will tackle this. GOSH…these people have just spoilt Nepal.
