Hi guys One day I was in indian resturant with my girlfried. We had lunch there. All the resturant staffs were nepali and they were very nice. But, when he brought the bill for payment, I hesitate to give some tips. But anyway I put some amount. What you guys think about it? Do you expect tips from Nepali. Just curious.

No second thought for me. I always give tips as service provided. Exception includes if I know the waiter well enough that he/she refuses it but again, I offten put that rejected tip in to a donation box.

Do you expect tips from a Nepali? First answer me, do you expect courtesy from a Nepali. If your answer is in the affirmative, then hell ya, you should DEFINITELY give tips. Its important to tip more at a Nepali restaurent coz you helping a Nepali family out. The more tipping, the better!

Oh one more thing, If I go to the new Indian restaurent, I ask the waiter if he/she gets the tip or not. If waiter don't get the tips then, I would say to the waiter " Sorry, because you are not getting what you suppose to get, I am leaving tip."

It is good to give tips if a waiter/waitress receives tht. I have seen some dumb nepali people trying to show unnecessary courtesy by giving tips in indian restaurant. In most of the indian restaurants, waiter/waitress doesnt get tips, owner puts into his pocket.

HI Guys I am not saying that we don't have to give tips to Nepali fellows. How he feels taking tips from Nepali. Someone who is giving tips may be working somewhere else at the same level. In my personal view, I won't give tips to nepali and won't expect to get tips from Nepali.

I don't give tips because of people's background or looks, I give tips according to the service provided. Except for muslims (They don' provide good service any way), and indians I never tip those loosers.

From What I heard, Most of the Dhoti restaurants does not give the tips to its staff instead they are paid a salary. If you leave any tips it goes to the owners pocket rather than waiters. What I have done in the past is, I just give Cash to the waiter separately and paid the bill by cr. card with $0 tip. Waiters told me that, they can get cash that way. U know, it is hard for a Nepali student to earn money for school. Giving some tip might help. I try my best to give them some.

This is such A Stooopid question. STREETBOY, DO NEPALI PEOPLE DESERVE TO EAT IN RESTAURENT IF THEY DON'T LEAVE TIPS ? I mean C'mon... Waiters and waitresses make a living on those fugging tips YOU MORON. Unless you want your waiter to spit on your food ....BE A CHEAP BASTARD AND DON"T GIVE TIPS. If I was that waiter I'd take your plate to the pissroom contaminate it and serve it on your pathetic table.

That's true, most Indian restaurants do not allow the waiters to keep the tip. In regular American restaurant (means almost all non-Indian restaurants), waiters get a base pay of around $2.75 per hour. But they are allowed to keep the tips, of course minus certain percentage that goes to bar, bus boys, taxes, etc. The final tally for the waiter's wage comes to $10 to $20 per hour in average restaurants. The owners of Indian restaurants just provide salary to their workers, usually 3 to 6 hundred dollars and most of the time that does not sum up to even minimum wage level. They can do this because most of the workers are not documented. Call it exploitation or the sway of invisible hand (remember Adam Smith?). So, I would give cash tip directly to the waiter if you like his or her service, preferably away from the manager/owner's sight.
