I see this every where I go but Nepali people are incredibly intolerant. I don't know if it is out of plain ignorance but my generation is completly out of hand. We buy into to stereotypes way too easily, and yes there is always some truth behind stereotypes and we can make some cultural assumptions but damn are we flagrantly racist. Even in the sajha posts I see tons of stuff about Hopsi, Madhise, Musalte. In the Middle east those mofos harrass Nepali ppl like crazy, treat them like dirt, even though they are hard working, and we HATE them for it yet at the same time we treat southerners from our own country in the same way. I've seen ppl spit on the Madhise that comes to collect Khali bottle, Kagaj, though he is doing the work that none of us are willing to do and helping us recycle. I myself have been a part of this, when I was younger I used verbally harrass Madhise, Ironic Becuase I am also from the south, but now because i realize how Nepali ppl are treated abroad I understand also the position of the Madhise, and they are mostly not even foreigners . When the 12 Nepali ppl were killed in Iraq I was sooo angry, these poor hard working ppl were killed for no reason, and I agree the manpower offices should have been burrned to the ground, but why did we attack the mosque, the muslims in nepal never did anything to me, yet we went and attacked thier place of worship. Bichara haru been oppressed by the cast system and find thier only way of escape only to be persecuted more. And of course indian bashing is one of our favorite passtimes, and of course i still do it, I've always thought it was some kind of cultural thing that they are vultures, opportunistic back stabbers, but as I've grown older i've come into contact with more and more Indians on a personal level and they seem to be good ppl, for now tho they r just not good enough of ppl to make me change my mind about them especially becasue they have such an opportunity to help Nepal but they wont becuase well...I guess they r kind of racist too.

Intolerant...yes "extremist".... not me, I did not burn down those mosques...did you ...are you intolerant...or 90% of people of Nepal were not involved...can you read and say those who did the burning were extremist...read my passage again.... extremist are always to blame... How can you generalize and say all are intolerant... If you generalzie you can say Nepali people are too tolerant....

Race is our pride/disgrace whatever we want to take it. Pride is much associated with our ego. No matter how fair we try to be, it does surafe no matter what we do. I guess its natural.

Why too tolerant 1) Elect Same skum bags as leaders 2) Drink dirty water, even though fresh water is only few miles away 3) Allow Mosque to be built in Kathmandu which were funded by the saudis 4) Live with extended families... 5) Live with so many enthinc groups... 6) Let India push us around...w 7) Give cheaper price for electricity to India even though Electricity is generated in Nepal we expect too litte, maybe too soft in the head but but Nepali's are tolerant....but extremist are intolerant everywhere... Extremist are intolerant....

Ummm, Meera, I'm not a racist person. I abide by the rules I set for myself. If you wanna lead your life the way you see fit, go ahead. Libertarian thinking: it's people's decisions. I have the right to question how you lead your life, but I don't have the right to impose my beliefs on you. Is that racist? As usual, you're just gonna point fingers and when I reply, you're not gonna reply back.

Yes, that's what *I* think. If you think it's a good idea to marry someone of a different race, then I can't stop you, can I? It's a free society. Do what you want to do. Is that racist?

I have to agree with the notion that racism, to some extent, is inherently present in our blood and yes it's a human nature in general. I think migration works as a best remedy to at least lessen its effect to some extent. In cosmopolitan places like US, racism has lesser infliction on people, since people from around the globe have to live and work in synergy, than in socially secluded place like Nepal.

i never said u were a racist. i was only wondering if u thought intercaste marriage is a bad idea...... by the way, just because someone marries from a different caste does not mean the spouse has to be from a different race. bahuns + chetrris - same race, different caste a person marrying someone from an other caste is completely different than he/she marrying a foriegner... i kind of see wehre you are coming from. my dad always insisted that i should marry a nepali, nabhaye i will be uprooted and i will try to keep that in mind. i dont have anything against forigners, it is just that in a conservative society like ours, it is probably not the best idea to take a forigner to my grandparents and telling them 'hey, this is my hubby'. nepali families are tight-kint, no matter what decision i make in life, i will have to keep their sentiments in mind. there are people who have made it work, and i am happy for them; i am saying it is probably not the best idea for me; now that does not make me racist or anything....same idea kya.

One thing people don't seem to understand is that even if we all mix up, there will still be discrmination. For example, aren't there people out there in South Asia who discriminate people for their dark skin? Fair skin, for example, is coveted by men in South Asia. That's discrimination as well. It's never gonna end. LFC, that's why I didn't use the term "intercaste" marriage. I will marry anybody who comes from my cultural background. Bahuns, Chettris, Podes, Kamis, they're all of the same race. Caste isn't a big issue for me. I'm more of a stickler for physical features.

racism exists, big time. no doubt about that but u just said u will marry "podes" and "kamis". they are the so-called "untouchables" and nothing boils my blood more than this term. butttt no matter how i feel, my family wont' be happy if i marry one. and that is the truth. may be things will begin to change in a good decade or so, but for now, our soceity, even in capital, frowns at the thougth of "untouchables". so are you implying now that your mother will not mind at all if you bring home an "untouchable"? u must have a very very liberal family, if that is the case.

The way I was raised was that I cannot really tell whether a person is an "untouchable" just from their surnames. Is pode a surname? I don't really know. My parents never talked to me about this sort of thing. Yeah, my parents are pretty liberal. Hell, I have a family member who's married to a White guy. They're cool with it. But I'm a pretty conservative guy myself. Don't know how this happened, but that's how it is. Now, I know I say a lot of racist things on this board, and that's when some people here insinuate things that drive me mad.

marrying a white, i don't think, implies being liberal or conservative for that matter. ajkal parents haru le chora chori ko kura kattna sakdainaan, that is why they succumb to their chidlren's desires, no matter how they feel. my famiy will have to accept if i tell them i want to marry a forigner, but they wont' be thrillleeed about it, that is what i am saying. i never thought u were racist, i mean u say things, every body says things in this board. that is why i was surprised when you said you dont believe in interracial marriages. as long as people make can make it work, they are fine. tara i think, for a marraige to be truly successful, the couple needs to share same cultural, socia et. al backgrounds.i i know u have issues gainst durga pokhrel, but lets set that aside, her marraige with a british guy worked out just fine, adn they have three sons. she is successufl, he is sucessful. i have a half nepali half german friend and inspite of a 18 year difference, worked out just fine. so i dont' want to generalize, but i would not personaly go for a interracial marraige, because i would not want to upset my family ot want to upset my family eihter. me gotta go. talk to u later hai.

Actually, I talk about issues with my parents. They're okay with gay marriage. Hell, they're okay with illegal immigration. My mom is okay with open borders with Mexico. She's one of those St. Mary's ko thiti--she's a feminist, lol. One thing I have noticed however is that most people around me seem to go for arranged marriage. There are some who're married to Whites. Hell, there's one cousin who's married to a lebanese guy, but the vast majority just seem to take the arrange marriage route in this day and age. Don't ask me. And there this one cousin who was raised here, and she got her marriage arranged. Alright, talk to you later then.

if you say the different races co-exists in harmony then you are so far away from the truth. Just because we don't wage a bloody war between different castes doesn't mean racism isn't there. its deep rooted in our society. bhote-jyapu-bahun.. they are all used as derogatory terms. how many chimse have we seen at the top of our social hierarchy. not in big organizations, offices.. nor the government? ... once people start adding bikrams and jungs and rajs to their middle name, they elevat themselves to a higher social recognition. how many bahun/chettris /thakuris are here whose parents would be perfectly fine with them marrying a "bhotini"? what do you think has brought forth the Janajati revolution in nepal? racism has never gotten better with time. In our oblivion, we pat ourselves on our backs thinking education and information is helping us ger rid of racism. and at the same time it is evolving into new forms of hatered in our own backyard.

Successfully my interracial marriage is working, I am married with an Engineer in computer systems, she is from Mexico, my family has no problem with this, due to the fact that we share the same moral values, I consider that more important than nothing, so count me in the ones that their relationship is working, a relationship is more than a race, it is about understanding.
