Here is my question : My green card expired and a new one is in the process( So I do not have a valid green card at this moment but I have a letter from the INS saying that it is in the process) and at the mean time my passport is expired too. Will I be able to renew my passport by just showing the letter from the INS or do I have to wait until I get the official green card? You know to renewed a green card can take somewhere 6 months to a year. ( At least that is what they told me) Please help me out here. Harris daju or anyone who can help me . Help is needed !!!!!!!!

Hello dalli, Nepali passport renewal and US green card have no relationship at all. Just go ahead and renew your passport asap. You should not have let your passport expire. Expiration of green card doesn't mean your status as permanent resident has expired. The approved LPR status never expires (except the USCIS revokes it for some reason), only the physical card expires after 10 years. At that point you file I-90 for replacement card, right? Expiration of passport is more serious than expiration of physical green card. Every alien must possess a valid passport all the time.

Dalli, I did not have any problem getting a new passport even when my previous one had expired therefore no need to worry, just contact Royal Nepal Embassy. There is an arrogant man whose last name is “Tamang†works in the passport section, avoid arguing with him as much as possible. He may try to give you a hard time.

Huh, I got it now. Dalli is married to a US citizen for more than two years now. Her conditional PR expired on the second anniversary of marriage. Now she has applied to remove that condition, right? When she gets the new unconditional LPR approved, she will probably be married for 3 years. Then she can apply for naturalization... no tension!
