I am starting to notice that my Nepali "uncles" cann't hold a conversation with me for more than 5-10 minutes. After that they will go off the topic and start blabbering about the past or the family history. They will try to make a joke and if that doesn't work, they will laugh themselves and walk away.

However, I have noticed that my American coworkers of my "uncles" age can hold conversation for hours. And, often times they make me run away (which is not easy for everybody).

Please share if you have noticed similar behaviours from your "uncles".

I have a theory for this kind of behaviour. I think that it is cultural upbringing. As a man growing up in the society 30-40 years ago, your only responsibility was providing for the family. You just didn't have to do interpersonal interactions outside your family or for work. You didn't even have to pursue ladies for marriage. So please understand this and be kind to your "uncles". They just didn't have opportunities to improve their communication and interpersonal skills like you have today.

Do your thing.

I do not think you can put all the 'uncles' under one umbrella. It really depends on the person. I know some uncles who could talk for hours and I know some who do not. Now that you said, I wonder what kind of 'uncle' I am.

Haha Hanuman I know 'American Uncles' who can't stop talking about football. You're right that 'Nepali Uncles' talk a lot about politics. I think the only problem is that they don't stop at Nepali politics, they will go on to talk about Indian politics, Chinese politics, American politics and the world politics 😃.

I think that you are a cool 'uncle' ketofarar.

Can you please define the age of an “uncle”? Some people become uncle at 25, some are called uncle at even 50.

I would say men above the age of 40 are considered "uncles". At this age young kids will start to call you uncle. You don't have to an uncle to be called one 😁.

I am old enough to be called an uncle. I have been living in the US for two decades. Unfortunately, I don't have the luxury to drink or do Crack everyday. I have to work to pay my bills. It's a cycle that is hard to get out from my friend.

What's your story? You sound like a nice simple man.

My father is the same. He doesn't seem to be able to hold a long conversation with me.
