the thing is men have been given the responsibility of fathering the offspring. now if they just mate with one women, that offspring might or might not stay alive. so the man has to go around mating with as many women as he could so that the prabability or chances of at least one (if not all) offspring surviving and making it to adulthood survives. women on the ohter hand have been vested with the responsiblity of nurturing. that is why the carry the child and feed the newborn infant. for women it is therefore protecting and nurturing the child

ofcourse there are numerous loopholes in this arugemnt but overall it makes sense k. men are just ......there is no better than adjective than hmm.....men. in highschool, a teacher once told us that when men are done with thier sexual intercourse, the brain releases a hormone makes them turn around and fall asleep. in women's case, they suddenly want to embrace and commit themselves to the man because there is a possblity that this man could be the father of thier child and the father is needed would for the survival of the family he would be the protector of the family, he is the one who would bring back game/food from teh jungle etc etc. (this probably does not apply to modern times though. may be back to ancinet times, but it takes a very very very long time for us to evolve......)
