I just fail to understand why this thread has got so much attention. And why ppl have opinions abt St. Xavier's. I didn't know until this thread happened that people have such a big complexity abt the school and its products. That's one thing I learnt.Very enlightening.

I agree 100% with you copy cat. ( after all we both are cat lol). If you see my posting, i did not mentioned SXV, RB, or BNK are not among the best schools. But some people have this high notion that just because they are from those schools, they are the best and rest in their own word "they do not give a shit." I gave example of Dr. Ambika Adhikari, Dr. Devkota, Dr.Kul Chandra Gautam just to let them know that the best can be anyone. Statistics shows exactly the same. No wonder they have this set piece of ego which is time and again showing up, sometime in mild language some time in ghetto language. I fail to understand how can a civilized person would interact with those people who does not no understand the basic decorum of civilized discussion, yet claim they got good schooling and “ gyan ko batti baleko tyei ho?”.
Oh yeah! one big name happening these days, Mr. Mahabir Pun, I guess he did not went to SXV but surprisingly a poor fellow , “a typical villager” won Roman Magsaysay awards 2007. importantly, look at the contribution he is making to those deprived communities. (Is he maobadi????)
Further, if you want to read how he is made learn through the very context (which I have been emphasizing) here is excerpts “My Early School Days
“It would be a long story if I write about my early school days. Therefore I would like to make it very brief. I went to the school in my village from grades one through seven. We didn't have any paper, pencils to write with, or textbooks to read. Each of the students had a wooden board blackened with charcoal, and a soft marble stone from a nearby cliff to write with. Our teachers were the retired soldiers of the Second World War who had never been to schools themselves. I got pencils and paper to write with for the first time when I was in the seventh grade, and text books in the eighth grade. ….”
http://www.himanchal.org/school-mahabir-pun.html
Learn something moron!
Coming back to rani, your question, why this thread has got attention.
- It is because some people think they are the best where reality stands on contrary to their notion.
- It is because they denigrate their fellow citizen by saying “ typical villager attitude”.
- It is because they do not have the capacity to stand and appreciate someone who achieved a lot more than those who were always been in privileged circle.
- It is because if somebody raises such issue they try to connect that with weak and dirty politics of Maoists, just because they run out of valid and sensible logic to place their arguments. As a matter of fact if you look at the crux of maoist problem, people like these gave rise to this Maoist problem.
- If they can not win through valid arguments, they come with all these filthy ghetto language to show their attitude. Did not you see? do not you think they need to go learn "naitik sikchya"??
And if you do not know they have this big complexity, if you are from SXV or St Mary’s, you should know that how they treat others who are not from the SXV or St Mary’s.
Just for example, if a firm or company is owned by one of SXV, if you are not SXV irrespective your talent you will probably loose that job. Ask you friends and relatives if they have ever come across situation like this. They are in a way trying to create like their own “Skull and Bone Society” or please correct me if I am wrong????
all I am trying to do is boost up the morales of those who might be thinking just because they are not from big school they can nto excel. I just want to tell them that if you have aim, spirit, comittment and focus you can learn anything from anywhere and beat anyone, irrespective of where you went for you highschooling.
I just want to put one quote from dr devkota, he gave this interview to BKP for dishanirdesh about 8-10 years ago it was like this " bijay ji jaba ma entrance exam ( i forgot i guess he was referring to colombo plan ko)dina basen tyeha sabai thula school ka manche thiye, am jabo gadi pani SLC dekheko ani mainle sochen, mainle jati fatko na iniharule mareka chan na marna sakchan nai, tyei bhayera yedi kasaiko nam niskancha bhane tyo mero nai niskanu parcha..." and he did it. lesson- if you can turn your complexity into your focus and commitment you can beat!
This is the era of self advancement, globalization and not highschoolization!( gone are those days)
No offense!

On what basis are you making this claim?? Just because you are not from SXV you dont get a job or you get fired? Where did you hear that?
While I concede that your notion is correct, I disagree to what you said in that phrase. You guys arguing from both sides have their rights and wrong. Just because you went to one school doesn't make you better(that is correct) but so is the fact that the graduates of the so called privileged schools(was said by someone) have always had an upper hand when it comes to getting a job just due to the reputation of the school.
Yes, some graduates of those schools maybe arrogant or maybe just simply proud of their school that you are mistaking for attitude. Do not judge a school by some people's perception or attitude for that matter, judge it by the reputation it has earned over time, for what it has made of its students. Again, there will always be individuals who will far exceed others no matter what their backgrounds are. It doesn't matter what school made how many billionaires or how many social activists. Harvard claims that they lead other school's in producing the most billionaires in the world. But they are not only ones producing the billionaires. For all I know, some of them haven't even stayed in school that much. I guess everyone would agree to the fact that
Harvard is one of the best schools in the world. But even they dont have the right to claim they are "the best". With that said, Bill
Gates was a college dropout from Harvard. However, if your child/brother/sister/friend got into Harvard and also into some college in Nepal where would you want him/her to go? Its not that I am claiming a name to fame but the facets of their education is something that is so appealing to people. No wonder these so-called privileged schools are regarded one of the best in Nepal.
One school is not better than another. Education surpasses all. So please don't mutilate each other on these baseless claims.
Again to reiterate "copycat (learn from him/her)" : ~
First step : you learn (hear/see/read) Second Step: Frustrations- for contradicting to your existing beliefs Third step: Acknowledgment of contradiction Fourth Step: Logical decision Fifth step : Implementation/realize/feel

KathCAT, It is because if somebody raises such issue they
try to connect that with weak and dirty politics of Maoists, just
because they run out of valid and sensible logic to place their
arguments. As a matter of fact if you look at the crux of maoist
problem, people like these gave rise to this Maoist problem.
We are bringing dirty politics in the discussion? Take a look at the following earlier statement for me!!!!!
Started talking like cadre of YCL, " you do not
have any right..blah blah blah" yes you SXV has right to say, do you
guys own patent right over the word "Right"???
hahaha. And you say that people like these...meaning Xavarians???? gave rise to the Maoist problem? Now I am wondering where the fugg is your brain? If you had read the article that I posted earlier, it points out that only 1 Xavarian so far has put his hand into dirty politics. Now, back to the Maoist problem. Dr. Baburam Bhattarai, a villager by all account who 'rose' beyond everyone in academics right? Well, because of him, 13000 people lost their lives! No matter what he studied, a village idiot he is after all! (btw, check out the def of village idiot before telling me next time that I am being condescending to ppl from the villages!).
Next, didn't Maoists gain popularity from the village? Didn't YCL emerge from your gaun? Next time get your facts straight KathCAT!
KathCAT, you are just an ignorant fag who hasn't even set foot on US and talking big like you've seen half the world! Remember this post back in June? Post by KathCAT: 6-22-08
Hi guys,
I got admission from two Universities. " A" university relatively
cheaper than "B". But I want to attend "B". For the VISA I was
thinking, using I-20 of " A" universtiy so that I could avoid
unnecessary VISA questions. Would it be possible to transfer to "B",
after entering to US, that too without attending univ "A ( i.e from the
first semester).
If anyone has been through such situation, please advise!
Haha. Earlier you mentioned that you beat Xavarians? You kidding me? A lot of Xavarians come to US straights out of high school on full scholarship! Now your pseudo intellectual mask has been taken off, so stop bittching! Guys, this thread is nothing more than the inferiority complex that KathCAT is feeling! Xavarians never say they are 'the best'. We are not the best! In terms of individual students there are probably a lot of students in villages who are smarter but don't have the opportunity. btw, KathCAT, you are not among them! Now, don't bring Xaviar's into the discussion anymore. Let the thread rest in peace, otherwise I will shred your pompous ego into pieces!

I've heard a lot of arguments and ego talks on this thread but noone has mentioned one of the most important differences. In
my opinion, the most important difference between what is taught
directly or indirectly in schools is the priority in life. For some
schools, the priority is to pass the SLC, for some schools it's getting
on top 10 in board. For some schools, it's just business. For some
government schools it's just a way to provide employment to teachers. I went to st xaviers and I think a very important part of the xavarian education is the priorities that it teaches the students. If
you went to a school where the priority was to get most students passed
or get most students to be on the top 10 board, then your priorities in
life later on may be influenced by your school's priorities. You may
want to be a top politician or bag a top class scientist award or a top
player award. I think instead of teaching you to prioritize
being at the top, it teaches you to be an average person but a better
person. Better not as in better human being, but better as in good in
many things and more ready to live a fuller life. People who start
threads like this will not like this and I am fine with that. Some
things in life are hard to digest and it's all fine and good. If
I am to stereotype a xavarian, their priority is to be happy and try to
see to it that others around them are happy. They believe in act
locally think globally. They don't want the responsibility of political
leaders to try to have the duty to help the whole nation, but they act
locally in their full power to make a little difference in few peoples
lives. As a whole there are many xavarians who are doing little bit
within their own locality and it makes a huge difference although no
one person gets awarded a prize. Just like their locality, they have
priority of their families and they have strong ties with their
families. Being successful within their family and small locality is
their priority. A xavarian education gives a person an air of
confidence. We are taught that whatever we are is ok, and that not
everyone is a superman. It is not mandatory that everyone becomes a
superstar, a doctor a scientist. These knowledge makes aone a Xavarian. It
is not Xavarian attitude to claim or even think that they are the best.
They know they are good and they are happy with that. When others see
their air of confidence, they mistake it for pompous ego because they
don't know any better. True xavarians will stand firmly on the ground
and let these people argue it out because it's pointless talk and those
who participate in it just have different priorities, and we hope you
will realize that we are not trying to show anything or prove anything.
We are what we are and if you have problem with it, then obviously
you're the one having the problem. Thank you.

ho ho kanchu!....maile pani ekjana useless xavier's graduate and MIT graduate teacher ko student bhayera padheko chhu kanchu, who was completely useless and a shame to my profession, perhaps even a shame to the xavier's name. tara I don't generalize just because one or two apples in the basket are rotten. I also know of equally talented people who came out of there.
It's immature and beneath my dignity to pick at others or to blow my own trumpet. So, lets not name names here kanchu!
The irony is these two extreme people are both xavier's graduates, one I look up to, one is a disgrace. So, what can I say? One has contibuted a lot to the country, the other has only exploited....
No hard feelings though.

Alright. This bashing has gone too far. Yes, we went to St. Xavier's and you didn't. Big deal. We are fine with where we are and you seem to be more than fine with where you are and what you have achieved. You are infact gloating about your success. And, I congratulate you on that. But, that is no reason to start bashing all of us who went to St. Xavier's. Maybe that's what separates you from us.
It was never set on stone that if you go St. Xavier's you have to be this or that. Heck, we haven't even used a single paisa from the Nepal Government. If you really have to go after some people or institutions, go after Budhanilakantha or Teaching Hospital. The Nepal Government pays for their expenses. Now, how many kids from both of these esteemed institutions have given back to Nepal? Maybe a handful.....
So, knock it off people. Leave us alone!!!

Initially I thought you were making some interesting points and that you had a valid argument. But this is plain hypocrisy. Fair enough- you are smart and talented. I give you that. But when did you beat any Xaverian? When did you stand out as exceptional? When did you beat the best students in the country (referring to Top-ten)? Again, no disrespect to anyone and I am not claiming Xaverians are the best. But lets be honest. Most people, whether they are Xaverians or not, don't think the way you did (yaya, about that I-20 thing). So stop claiming that you are one of the hard-working honest intelligent diligent kid. And stop bashing Xaverians or anyone else for that matter. If you think you outdid your fellow classmates in 11th and 12th grade and consider yourself "better," well, its time for a reality check. Please wake up and stop posting generic comments that are not true. Peace.

Guys! at a first place I thought this thread was total useless.
But it seems it has uncovered many hidden things which have been lying beneath the cover. 1.Some ego (may be pride) of xavierain and 2. humiliation/complexity faced by people like kathCAT ( if he is true). Both of their arguments are valid in many respects.
It is quite natural that if you go to good school you would feel proud about that but that does not mean you should show that to that limit when other one starts feeling being edged out or get irritated. We see that very feeling is coming out from some of the Xavierians, which is OK, but time and again their saying “ we” “ we the xavierian” also depict their underlying ego/pride. If you do that someone might feel as if being xavierian you people want to have some separate space in the society. This is also not a plausible thing to do.
kathCAT, while I am really impressed with your research on non SXV heros( like devkota to pun) one thing you should know, you can not generalize. They can be role model for both for xavierain and non xavierain. I understand being non xavierain you would certainly want to emphasize that part which is OK. But more than that, they are Nepali. We all gotta be proud of that! It seems that you had very bad experience with some xavierians and you somewhere showing your frustration too.
Like I said, we also had one xavierian/MIT teacher but he is not even a worth mentioning and it is also true he is getting exposure and opportunities because he went to MIT. Yeah we used to get frustrated ( also people like ranii who went to mary’s)sometime to see that happening yet we can not generalize.
I also have some xavierian friends who are good. I know one xavierian who was a complete jerk. The good xavierian guy never used to mention a lot about him being xavierien, his breadth of knowledge was very impressive, very up to date, he could sing heavy metal to jhalak man gandarv( on contrary to kathCAT belief) and he was very part of our friend circle. Whereas this jerk time and again used to mention about him being xaveirain, yet he was completely dumb, he would always use his school name mere as a shield, just to show that he is from xavier’s, kind of following the same foot steps of the teacher that I mentioned above. This guy used to speak from the hat which he never wears. My point is how can we generalize? They both were too diff people with completely different attitude but from the same school. I think they are like that not because of their schooling, because their attitude and character. Even they had gone some other school they would have been like that. This has nothing (or very little) to do with your schooling. Your personal experience may have been bitter but can not stereotype. So let us respect each other and not generalize.
Gyani keta! Gov paisa nakhadima des ko sewa nagarne, yo kura lai milena ni hoina! School ta des main cha ni hoina?
The point is we all need to contribute!
Peace!

Well since you people brought this issue, i got admission and scholarships ( not the full but substantial) in both univ. and they both happen to be ivy league FYI.I got one in NY area and one in MA. If you are not dumb you can easily guess. ( till now i did not mention becaue i did not want to) You are welcome to cross check. I just have some priorities over some school not because of their quality becaue of my personal situation. My younger brother lives in NY and he is having hard time paying his tuition. We are not rich. Nor he has good health. He works in subway. Univ which is at MA has offered me little more funding but I wanted to stay with my brother. and in nepal, people tell you many thing, about US and visa so I contacted my brother, he also did not have any clue about it. this was the reason behind that posting. now that i got the research grant plus one fellowship so now i do not have to pay for my education.
bhaikancha! this is not hypocrisy. if you ever come to NY, do let me know we rural people know how to treat the guest!
i was getting bored staying alone in apt so i came into saja. But i am really amazed by some ruthless comments poured against me and me like " rural villagers" by elite. You people seem to already have become more american which i did not know but learnt a good lesson. welcome to america. I will remeber this. thopse who think i have maoist attitude, let me tell more than you, my life and my family's life has been affacted by these criminals and seen crime committed by them not in news paper but in real life. hate them!
Thanks everyone!
