nepali students who work illegally (in gas stations etc) have made us all shameless.....Last night, I saw a nepali student working in a gas station. Upon being asked, he said he was making money for his tuitions and six pack corona everyday. I was like dyam......

I disagree with soktim but soktim does have some valid points here,

All of us, lets lay down on bed close our eyes and compare ourself now and during the time we were in I.Sc or +2, if we think what we are now is what we thought we would be , thats great but if we are actually not satisfied, Soktim is right.

When i see my brother (Guy with 83% in SLC) and 71% in I.Sc, going to community college in dallas for last 4 years but sending couple of thousends dollar to parents back home (though they dont really need that) as compared to my another brother who was just an average student , id his engineering from Kantipur but got admitted to reputed university in USA, it does make me think that however small the number be, SOKTIMS point is valied for some students, at least to my brother whose parents are very very worried about his futere (enve though he himself is not)

I understand that the way he chose to convey the message was wrong..i mean he expressed it in a way that reflects his stupidity and lightness on the matter concerned..but leave that guy and talk about what actually happening? I think he has raised an important point. This is something to do with the mindset of every nepali. I would love to be in Nepal studying in normal colleges than to be in US working 50 hours a week to pay for the tuition and paying more attention to the fees rather than the study( i still believe that more of the people donot do well in thier studies working 50 hrs a week)

The first thing i want to say you is that countering doesnt just mean to say you are wrong but to come with some solid arguments...Your example of food is not relevant here.. do u mean to say that there is no educational institution in Nepal? The comparision might be between good food and bad food and then what i will chose depends on the circumstances.

I am not saying that they are supposed to go back to Nepal but why to rip your ass in US when you know that one is going to have bad times here..scholorship payena bahne Nepal mai basera padhe hudaina?. why are people so fancied about US?
You know balbahadur guessing is a good work but unfortunately it doesnt help much....Before asking me to go back to Nepal and set and example, you were first supposed to know that I do indeed work In US. but u didnt think that important cause you have a mindset everyone is the same. I am not trying to sound here good saying that I dont have to work but thats the way it is...hope this enlightens you and in future you will think something before saying anything,.. i still believe that i will prefer staying in Nepal reading in some normal colleges rather than studying in "normal" US colleges and working 50 hrs to pay for my tuition...

I think most Nepalis forget what they are striving for and get lost in the American party way of life and live from day to day kinda life. No concern for the future until it's too late to recover from the damages.

Whereas some Nepalis work really hard make use of all opportunities and make it happen.

The one thing most Nepalis are really bad at is following advice or making the right decisions.

Looking back from my and my peers' experiences, try to be focussed and make use of opportunities, ask advice from seniors, refrain from drugs/sex/gambling because these things will bring you down at one point for sure.

Aim high and you will get a little less than high but aim low and you will get a little less than low.

Life in USa changes in seconds. People who didn't go to school or work as slaves to a company have better and decent lives too. just having a little booth in a mall can earn up to 7000 or 10,000 a month. Ya fool , thats right.. which requires no scholorship and education background. Just some common sense and dedication. And they can earn more than you modern niggers working for someone's dream. Never know when they'll lay you off and you might have to go ask for jobs with students managers in gastations to meet your end needs.
People who do not have education and scholorships can make millions and financial freendom, without being slave to anyone.. look at the korean liquor store owners, look at the desi motel oweners, look at the gastation oweners... they have millions but they work hard and better and financially secure life than yours...

I am simply shocked by the way you think, yes nepalis do have the tendency to blame each other but i have not heard any Nepali blaming students who work hard in gas stations ..the proof is in this thread itself where everyone seems to disagree with you whilst you never freaking give up to what you arrogantly believe
i do not work in a gas station but i work for long hours at nights..see most of people when they are in Nepal and they get mislead or they are actually too young or sometimes lazy to think for themselves. It was the same postion that i was in last year. We give SAT and all but even with good scores they either do not get scholarships or are not appropriately helped to get one. Anyway we get visa and come to US thinking we will get scholarships but we do not. I beleive most of our parents pay only the 1st sem fees and then what after that, 6000 odd $ dollars to pay per sem, no scholarships.
nOw is there any other option to find someway to pay that amount. I think you yourself know that the 20 hr per week on campus job is just enuff for you to survive, so where do you get that much money from. our parents do not have that much money. do you recommend us to go back to nepal. off campus jobs are the only way, i know it is illegal but you very well know that it is not a want but a neccessity. at least give us kudos that we are trying to keep our educational career alive.
and tell me how easy is it to get on campus jobs? i do not know how it is there where yu are but when i was in KY i had no on campus job for a full semester YOU HAVE FULL SCHOLARSHIP, YOU DO NOT GET AN ON CAMPUS JOB, HOW DO YOU FEED, CLOTH AND SHELTER YOURSELF? I BET YOU WILL NOT LEAVE YOUR STUDY AND GO BACK TO NEPAL, IF GIVEN AN OFF CAMPUS JOB AT THAT TIME YOU WILL GOBBLE IT NO DOUBT

balbahadur sathi, i have answers for everything, I came to US because i didn't get scholarship in Nepal.sounds weird? its true my education here costs less than that in Nepal. In fact they don't provide you. And as far as going back is concerned, I am still an undegrad and as i finish my studies, unlike you I am going back to my home. So once again despite of my advice, I find you guessing. Thats the way you are. I have no remorses.

Just because some a**hole told some stupid stuff doesnt meant you guys really have to react to his comments AS IF what he told is totally true.

Im surprised to see his comments. Why does he care if someone is working to support his/her education? We all know the economic condition of an average Nepali family. The thing that surprises me is the way he is cursing all of our Nepalese fellows. He says that people shouldn't come to US without scholarship and that Nepal's education is also competitive. On what grounds is he saying those things? If so, why didn't he study in Nepal. He thinks that only Nepalese work in gas stations. Many of us have seen other int'l fellows doin a lot of "illegal" work. We are not doin that to buy a house in the US, we are doing that to pay for our tuition, we are doing that so that we can pay the balance due from last semester, we are doing that so that we can register for at least 12 credits for next semester, we are doing that so that we can stay "legal".

I don't see anything wrong with working (legally/illegally) while u'r on student VISA. SOKTIM needs to mind his own damn business. He should be proud of those people who work to pay for the education or other expenses than making money by taking advantage of innocent people(robbing,stealing,pan-handling), like his "BAU" in Nepal.
