A group of Nepalese young girls standing and waiting for clients at the entrance of Sonargachi brothel in western city of Calcutta. These girls are being trafficked into India with promises of jobs in big cities. The demand for beautiful looking Nepalese women is very high in Indian brothels and the business of trafficking of girls from Nepal and other neighboring countries is well established - some rural communities in these poor countries have been selling their children into prostitution for generations. Some Indian brothels have an infection rate of HIV as high as 75%. Once infected and sick by AIDS, these girls are usually replaced with fresh ones. Infected ones are send beck to their villages or rural communities, where once again prostitution is taken up, if not as a primary occupation, as part time. This pattern spreads infections in such remote communities where getting treatment, even for minor infections or disease, let alone HIV/AIDS is considered a dream.

Quitely seriously, they named the brothel infested place as Falkland Road? That's too much! If they are so shrewd in business strategies as we can tell from the Nomenclature for places or what not, why aren't they able to figure out a practical solution to the slum situations in their megalopolises to start with?

NakPore - Thanks for bringing this up and Loots thanks for the MaitiNepal links. My own views on the subject are reflected in some of the posts here. Poverty appears to be the primary factor responsible for prostituion in Nepal as in most often the case anywhere in the world. While anti-trafficking legislation is important and should be supprted and enforced the real solution here is long term : poverty reduction. Moral values, laws, religion, etc matter little at the level poverty that some of these girls, women and their families live in. Hanging human traffickers, as appealing as it sounds, is unlikely to solve the problem on its own. As long as the conditions that give rise to prostituion and human trafficking exists in a society, hanging anyone wont really solve the problem, people will just bide their time and get back to it at the earliest opportune moment. My 2 cents.

I know that Naak pore. But, becareful..those pictures might give some ideas to Nas and other sickos. Look at Nas, he even created a thread similiar to yours making fun of this topic. There are some people who are genuinely concerned about these sensitive issues..but there are people like Nas who choose to take it lightly and even make fun of it. Let's see when these people have a daughter of their own. What goes around comes around.
