hey ppl i've seen lot of us born nepali kids not speakin nepali they say they dun feel lik speakin or hate to speak it y is it so??? there r lot of nationality here in us n lot of us bron kids speak their own language in hom or atleast they try to but y dun nepali kids speak nepali it bothers me so much is it juss natak?? or its juss me dosen't this thing bother ne1

I understand the fact that its hard to speak nepali if one is born outside of nepal or has left nepal at a early age. Sometimes speaking nepali at home just isn't enough. But then there are these other "nautanki" people who piss me off so much.. When you've spent a decade+ in Nepal and moved to U.S. or anywhere else, it stupid to say that they don't know any nepali. Coz i've personally met many many teens who've lived in Nepal for msot of their lives and act like they dont understand/can't speak nepali, and to me that's just BS. I left Nepal at an early age, yet I can speak nepali/understand fluently. And, when i see these other people, who've only been out of nepal for a few years and try to pretend that theyve forgotten their mother tongue, it gets me mad.. read mad!

If we were in Nepal fine. But we are not are we ? Just like Sherpa, or Newari, or Tharu kids speak Nepali in Nepal, kids are speaking English here. I don't see no difference. Kids want to belong, the same reasons they don't wan't to be called Bhote, Jyapu, Madhisey. Its the same here, they don't wan to be called Gook, Bahadur, Mahoot. Before you start reflecting upon the kids here, look at the kids back home. Why are those kids not speaking Tharu, Sherpa, Newari and only speaking in Nepali. If you get my drift..

This thread is getting weird. i mean people are fighting over why people do not speak in Nepali. Lol I would say.. its their own choice. I have seen people in NEPAL who speak english all the time. There were these 2 kids of age 2-5 and they would only speak in english because their parents urged them to do so. I have seen couples, families and all that speak only English in Nepal. So whats the fight about people born here? maybe they find the language easier.. OR maybe they are trying to improve by speaking in english. I remember all the people in ANA talking to me in English. I dont know why people do that... BUT its their choice.. HENCE, live with it and do what you want to do!!

You are right there are tons of neps-people who speak ENG in Nepal it self. The problem we are having is not only the Language but the PRIDE and ONE's OWN IDENTITY. As you know we don't have a very good history in the past that we could be proud of being a Nepali. Our past is of a REFUGEE status not of BRAVERY. We don't have our identity and our leaders didn't put effort to promote our culture or so. Instead they were all corrupted all time. Our present generation are so vulnerable that we don't know what is right what is wrong. We don't have such sense. Future of Nepal will suffer more. Only reasons, WE HAVE NOT ASKED

- WHO AM I ?
-WHAT IS MY IDENTITY?
-WHAT OTHER WORLD THINK ABOUT ME AS A NEPALI?

We are not proud in anyway being a nepali as Indians and others do for being Indians.

Because of that a Nepali wants to identify him/her with other successful person. So, he/she wants to speak English having a false ego to be a successful one. That is the mirrage which will not be achieved. A nepali with no identity will forget himself being a nepali and rest of the world will not accept them in their community for him not being the part of their community. He/she will be lost in the womb of future unless the mistakes are corrected for the sake of the NEPALI IDENTITY. For that:

* First, We must learn to RESPECT other NEPALI. That should be the Beginning.
