Any information on this incident? It may sound rude, but why don't students purchase insurance? Commmunity colleges suck; aren't they supposed to force international students to buy insurance?
_____________________________
Dear all:
Yesterday, Nepalese Association of Houston (NAH) learnt about sudden and untimely death of Manoj Shrestha, a young student at San Jacinto College in Houston. Please view the attached two documents that we have received in this regard.
As a community, NAH offers deep condolences to Late Manoj Shrestha's family and friends. May Lord provide strength and spiritual guidance to all his loved ones.
The grief-stricken sister of Late Manoj Shrestha, who is in the US, and his family members from Nepal have made a humble request to us to have his body sent to Kathmandu for final rites.
As such, NAH is initiating a donation drive to cover all necessary expenses to send his body back home.
You can make the financial contribution using the PayPal (accepts credit card) on the official NAH website, http://www.houstonnepalese.org/ by clicking “Donate" tab. This is a noble cause to contribute and no amount is small enough. As time is of essence, please take some moment to help out his family members as they deal with their irreplaceable loss.
While NAH initiates and co-ordinates this responsibility, we will continue fund collection till Sunday, May 15.
We also request you to kindly forward this email to anyone who can possibly make a donation for this cause.
As a community-based, not-for-profit organization registered with the state of Texas, NAH values and appreciates your kindness.
-Dr. Rupak Rauniar
General Secretary
Nepalese Association of Houston

@ Americane and Sumone
Nagarikreport is talking about the Life insurance.
I think we alllll Nepalese Should buy @ least life insurance to deal with sad incident like this.
many students and others borrow so much loan and take so much risk to come here in USA, think about it, if you just buy that
life insurance at least your family back home are in safe side.
For Americane- Dude nepalese society in anywhere in the USA are not fully responsible for these cases. They all can only take initiatives like Dr. Rouniyar is doing here in this Forum. He is tying to help Manoj out and you are NOT.
People like you would never donate a dime to Nepalese society or any any nepali related event and you want Nepalese socoety to take care of the whole thing????
Where do you think they get their money from??? ONLY IF YOU GIVE. Try to appreciate that someone is taking his/her time to write these things in Sajha and asking for help. First Flush your poor mentality and think wisely.
How much did you donate for Manoj Funeral?????? Tell me seriously how much??? let me guess "ZERO" right???
and here you are taking Big.
I really think health insurance is a rip off, if you have health issue you can simply fly backhome and get your treatment done.
Life insurance really helps,
This is true, I had to survive on Raman Noodles for months here in USA back in the days BUT i had Life insurance because if I had died my parents would have nothing left coz they took so much loan for my education in the US.
Guys think about this seriously and Friends, this is a sad moment instead of fighting we need to work together to solve the problem.

Nagarikreport you are talking about Life insurance and not health insurance. At least get it right specially when you are preaching at such an inappropriate time.

Dear Haters,
You can purchase "repatriation" insurance with health insurance as well. Universities force you to buy this insurance in order to assist in a situation like this. If the departed Soul had repatriation insurance, his body would have been in Nepal by now. I know it's insensitive to talk about these things at this time, but don't you think it's one of the most crucial elements? In undergrad, I used to pay $35/month for health insurance that included repatriation. Spend few dollars in life insurance. Frankly, community colleges don't care. If you go and let the college know that an international student has left the world, what would they do? Nothing! They will simply ask "Did he have insurance"?
If insurance is expensive, I would recommend setting up a fund where EVERY international student is forced to donate $1/month. If a situation like this arises, we would not have to raise fund. I appreciate we all Nepalese coming together in a situation like this.
By the way, before I read all the hate messages directed towards me, I prayed for this departed soul. May he rest in peace.

Shashin,
You may want to update how much has been raised and how much left to go.
If you can update that, may be a donor can donate multiple times.
Just my personal thought. Another thing you might want to publish the Donors list...so that it creates
a pressure on those who have not donated yet. That might be unethical way, however, some times we should do it
to get Quick response from people.

Hi Sashin,
Thanks for the info.
The Nepalese association of huston seems to be doing great. However, we all should come together when we are in need.
One error is there in that organization's website. It says something like:
NAH Emergency Fund - help Nepali brothers and sisters on emergency situations: Donate
Can you please ask them remove the Nepali Brother and sisters with Manoj Shresth.....
Just my thought.
Please, dont take me wrong. My honest thought. We should focus in a particular thing in one time.
(Note: I donated small amount what I could do!!)

Smooth,
I was also hoping if NAH would create a separate page for Manoj, but they didn't . I wish Dr. Rauniar would do that .
Please Dr. Rauniar is there any possiblity to change the name to Manoj Shresthat rather than saying
Nepali Brother and sisters . Sorry please dont take me wrong it is just a small request..
Please....
Thanks,

@nagarikreport
I understand your concern about students purchasing insurance, and I believe that will be a very useful information for students. However, I think it would be a good idea to relay that message after we have successfully sent his body back to his bereaved family.

ts very sad news of nepali dying here in usa who came here with a dream.
RIP Manoj
Usually if someone has a ccount in wellsfargo, citi, basic life insurance upto 5000 are covered free, with additional dollar a day, it can be covered upto 100k. So its wise to have insurance.
