The opinions that Sachin Tendulkar should be dropped from the indian cricket are getting hotter these days. We know in the last two years, he has been in an out with injuries, and is nowhere near is best. But is Sachin that bad that he should be dropped? Lets look at the figures. Following is the stat of the Indian Batsman who have played at least 5 games in the 2006/2007 season including the 3rd ODI in chennai against the West Indies. Mat Runs HS BatAv 100 50 Tendulkar 14 480 141* 36.92 1 3 Dravid 12 358 63 32.54 0 4 Dhoni 13 336 62* 30.54 0 3 Karthik 6 113 63 22.60 0 1 Pathan 8 148 64 21.14 0 1 Raina 10 131 34 16.37 0 0 Yuvraj 5 64 27* 16.00 0 0 Kaif 6 80 30 16.00 0 0 Sehwag 10 148 65 14.80 0 1 Clearly, Sachin tops in run, highest score, and century. Only Dravid has scored one more half century than Sachin, but Dravid's average is less. So after he came back from injury, Sachin has been the best from the Indian team although he is running through bad form. Then how can people shout that Sachin should be dropped from the team? Now lets look at the current world's greatest batsmen in the 2006/2007 season: Mat Runs HS BatAv 100 50 Tendulkar 14 480 141* 36.92 1 3 Ponting 14 460 111 38.33 1 5 Lara 19 472 87 33.71 0 3 Gilchrist 11 298 92 27.09 0 3 Hayden 8 324 117 46.28 1 1 Hussey 14 392 109* 98.00 1 1 Gibbs 9 225 93* 32.14 0 2 Kallis 11 332 119* 36.88 1 1 Strauss 8 210 56 26.25 0 2 Yousuf 5 153 71 51.00 0 1 Ricky ponting is the talk of the show thesedays has performed marginally better than Sachin in average but his total run score is less than sachin in the same no of matches. So Ponting's better average is only because of not-outs. Lara's case is even worse bothe in runs and average. Why dont people talk about Lara and Ponting being dropped when they havent performed as well as sachin? Hussey's average is 98 in the last 14 games but his total score is 392 while Sachin's is 480 in the same no of matches. So Hussey has remained not-out more often as he comes towards the end. See the stats guys. Sachin is going through the worst form of his life, but he has scored more runs than anyone of Ponting, Lara, Youhana, Kallis, or Hussey. But we still love to say that Lara and Ponting are far better as batsman than Sachin. Totally wrong!! Sachin has been named Man of the Match 51 times, which is the highest by any player. The second is Jayasurya, about 40 times and Lara 30 times. Sachin is not my favourite batsman ( I am a fan of Kallis), but I must confess Sachin is the most thrilling to watch. But we still love to say that he isnt a match winner, and is a choker. This is because we expect him to hit century in every other match, go after renouned bowlers every over. Somewhere inside, we think he is the God of Cricket , and we want him to perform like that.

I think based upon sachin's present form and his physical condition, he still can go for 1-2 yrs. I think this will be his last world cup; and I do hope he will perform well to make it a memorable world cup. I don't mind anyone wining it but Australia; I am sick of Aussie hegemony on world cricket.

CC, hahahahaha...same here. i do like him. he is a great batsman, no doubt. ideally i would want all the good players to play forever. but it's not possible. oh how i wished wasim akram to play as much as i wanted. but ke garne...i would love to see steve waugh thrashing SA bowlers again and again. i would love to see viv richards smash bowlers all over the park. but, everything ends, that's life! so we better accept this bitter fact. it would be better to see sachin off while he's got some juice than to see him getting clean bowled regularly by mediocre bowlers. flips, dravid will be around for at least a couple of years. and relatively less experienced people like kaif and yuvraj are having enough international exposure. so indian team won't be marred too badly even if sachin retires right away. raazstone, it's not about any particular team. it's about CRICKET. the discussion applies to every team, be it india, aus or nepal. Sachin took one whole year last year to score one half century. We cant judge anybody from performance in indians flat track. He has failed miserably outside india. Plus his performace in last five years in test cricket is nothing to boast about. Only thing keeping his average in test cricket has been his one or two big not out innings. But he has been far from consistent. Second thing is even if he scores runs by any chance, he is not the same player. He has lost his touch for last five years. He doesnot hold the same aura as lara, or same brutality as ponting. His is ranked 23rd in the world in test cricket, the lowest he has ever been and it is continuely deeping. Even in one day matches he has been out of sorts, one good innings here and there should not book his place in the team. He should go back and play ranji trophy like saurav ganguly, once he gets his form back he should come back.

. tendulkar needs to be dropped hes been playing international cricket for 17 years now he needs to find out (for himself) if the hunger is still there if he finds that the flame still burns, i have no doubt that he will be back to his destructive mid-to-late 90s form otherwise, take a bow its been a privelage watching one of the all-time greats

if sachin was in the australian team, he would be dropped years ago. south asian cricket fans are way too emotional at times that they fail to perceive things practically. it would be for the greater good of the indian team if sachin retires asap. he can contribute a whole lot in the youth academy in grooming youngsters to produce future tendulkars. we've already witnessed the best of the master blaster. it's time we bid him goodbye. he's not gonna be what he used to be in the 90's anymore. he is a great batsman alright, but he's been over-rated as well. you've to live in viv richards' era to see what a complete batsman is all about. sachin is nowhere close to be called a complete batsman. :P i am all set to take the beatings of sachin's fans here. :P LooTe

hehehhe ... come on loote dude, you know better than that .... yes agreed he is no where close to the bradman phenomena nor he is anywhere near richards destructivenss, but o count him out as a complete batsman, it probably took you a lot of guts, innit ? Im sorry kiddo, I dont agree with you. and why are you saying IF sachin was in australian team, Im not really a huge fan of IFs, even though I use it sometimes. Maybe had sachin been in the australian team, we wouldnt be talking about him, cause who knows if the then aussie selectors would have given the 16 yr old a chance or not bhanera... ki kaso ?

hahahahaha...freak bro, i knew it was coming :P. no one can deny that sachin is a very good batsman, one of the greats of all time indeed. skillwise he is almost complete. he has all the shots in his armory and play them all pretty well. that's why he's able to sustain for 17 yrs. but he does not have that killer instinct that a player of his caliber is supposed to possess. one of the reasons why i don't support india is that they are all big time chokers - tendulkar being one of them. players with the likes of viv richards may not have all the shots that sachin prolly has but they have higher spirit and more confidence than sachin and that makes a hell lot of difference! i have wrote this before somewhere and am writing it again. how many centuries that sachin scored have helped india to win matches? how many of his centuries came out in big matches, tight matches, pressure matches. you can do the analyis. i don't have the stat on top of my head but am sure he has failed to make big scores in tight and crucial matches more often than not. i would want to remember sachin for the sarjah tournament he played in '98 where he destroyed aussie attack single handedly to help india clinch the championchip title. unfortunately, there are not more of such matches that player of his caliber is supposed to have under his belt. secondly, sachin was on the rise when india as a team was struggling during the 90s. too much of responsibilty on his shoulder helped him to some extent but at the same time pressurized him unnecessarily. it came out positive because he was able to deliver on few occasions and that brought him all the accolades and the media (south asian especially) blowed his performance out of proportion to say the least. this put too much pressure on his shoulder and he failed to deliver in important occasions. thanks to his chking and not so positive attitude. i am not trying to grill sachin here, but people like ricky ponting (2003 WC final), steve waugh (2003 semis against SA) have played better innings and responsible ones than sachin in more than 3/4 occasions. just because they were from a more competitive team and from the part of the world where cricket is a huge craze but not necessarily a "religion" have overshadowed their performance. media and people in india and subcontinents are very sensitive. if a player plays a heroic inning, they will blow their trumpet like anything and if they fail to deliver they are grilled to death. this helps players to get more than deserved 'wah-wahs' when they deliver on few occasions. sachin went through the same when he was in his prime form in the nineties. so that helped a lot to make him stand in perhaps an un-deservedly high stature. please feel free to disagree but with arguments :P LooTe

Why do we need a comparision here? Let them be who they are! Now, comparing LooTe to Einstein does not make LooTe Einstein or does it? It is just an example here. Happy Tuesday! :-)

hahahahahaha...flips maicha!!!! no one is comparing people. i am comparing performances. if you want to be remembered as the greatest batsman of all time, you should be able to live up to the expectation that past legends have not been able to. all i am saying is --> sachin --- a master blaster of his era...a great batsman indeed. BUT his best time has gone. what you are seeing and will see is sachin minus his best form. if you want that sachin and wah wah his performance like you used to do during the 90's, then i have nothing to say. team need more vibrant player than someone who is going down the hill. that being said, am not trying to take anything away from him. he is a great batsman of his era and will be remembered like that forever. LooTe PS btw, comparing LooTe with einstein has high probabilty of making einstein LooTe. :P

maicha, i said, no one is in comparison game. if you compare Loote with einstein, there is a higher possibility that einstein will become Loote. Loote becoming einstein is next to impossible. i can assure you that, unless i become bald hahahahahahaha :P LooTe

its so sad the fans r turning out from the player who makes them happy for a long time,,he was great, not was I think he is great and will b in great in future also, players can only perform high at their best time s,no one can b top for a long time as edmund hilary also said that its very easy to climb the top but very hard to b in top for a long time, yeahh, even maradona faces the same problem ,all his fans wants him to score and peform the same ,he couldn't that's why he uses cocaine and other narcotics drugs to perform well only for his supportters n fans, there is no words for sachin aka little master ,he is architecture of shots in the game of cricket and indain teams knows his value pretty well,I m damn sure indian selectors...fck to selectors even the president can't take him off frm the indian team,he has done a zob others can only dream bout
