Something to ask :-) Study ---------------- - How is student life in Aus? -How r the chances of getting RA n TA in Graduation? (while continuuing) - Can student make good/decent life even after paying tuition fee? - How is the pay? - Off campus jobs? (and of course pay) - Does Aus also have 5 years Ph D course like US (Masters+ Ph D)? - Can student apply for work permit while studying? - Generally how many hours r students allowed to work? (is it 20 hrs a week?) After Study ---------- -How is job market? - I heard every state has their own rules, can we apply jobs to any state we want? - After completion of study, if visa expires, how much time students get to find job? (Like in Canada its one year) Immigration ------- -Are students eligible to apply? - Generally, how long does it take for final decision? - Can we directly apply for citizenship after getting PR - How is Australain life? Life ------- -I heard weather is great, is that really so? - Do they know anything more except CRICKET? - Which cities r the best to live (jobs and life)? - How big is Nepalese community? Finally, How r the Ausies chicks :-)

Hi amazing bro, I was in UK for 6 months. and I live in manchester . I was visiting my friends there. I got aot of friends there. I still Did not like Uk coz people are not friendly as they are in Australia. BEfore I came to Australia, I was travelling to USA& canada. I was there Around six months but I met so many nepali people and they have inferier complex. Even One of my very good friends, He is doing PHD in FL, he shared me alot of expreience what he had in USA. It might be my wrong judgement. but We are kale in those countires. But I never feel those things in here in Australia, this is very very multicutural country. It is easy to get PR ( reseident permit). Hey guys if u are Chef, we are welcome here and make heaps of money here

I have to speak against the misnomer being touted here that Nepalis are looked down upon in North America. In my experience it is not so. Sure, with different color of skin and foreign sounding name, the eyebrows do get raised. And I am sure, like anywhere else in the world - including Australia, mind you - there are isolated cases of racism. But I do not think there is a widespread or systematic discrimination in the US or Canada. I am sure Madhesis, Hillfolks (Tamang, Gurung, Rai, Limbu, etc.) and Dalits face 100 times more discrimination in Nepal than Nepalis in general face in North America.

I dont know what this nepali soul bro is talking about. I dont think he has lived in US or Canada. I dont say there is no discrimination in US and Canada but not like that as he is saying. I am very sure there is more discrimination in Australia than in US or Canada. The only place to go to Australia is Sydney and Melborne. Nepalisoul bro, go out side of those places and you will know what discrimination is. only sydney and melborne is not whole australia.

I do not know about Aus and Uk, but there is a strong racism in the USA against dark skinned. The people who like to call themselves natives( not native americans) do not see any dark skinned as equal to them. No matter where you work, they do treat equally. Of course, they are sugary sweet and act friendly. They will of course invite you , at least as you to come over for free thanksgiving dinner or trip to free cookies and coffee in their church. However, they always ask you, " are you going back?", and if you say, " no" they don't like it. If you say, yes i love this country, i had a great time and now that i have spent all my parents hard earned money on paying 5 times higher than your kids in the shcool and i can't wait to just pack up and leave on the next flight, they love it . They might invite you for more free coffee and cookies and free lunch and dinners etc... lived in the east, west , north and the south part of the USA. It's same everywhere. Dark hair, dark skinned and some accent; thats it. In their view you're nowhere equal. I can't even imagine how some of the muslim people live here in the USA. If you are a Nepali and look like mexican, then hell you're doomed. even at the gasstations or restaurants you won't be treated good. They'll call you as " amigo". haha.... if people in the US were so nice then wouldn't they give residency opportunity to students. Wouldn't students be allowed to work ofcampu and 20 hours , at least just like in the aus or UK? people are very racist . you can live here all your life, your children can born here and have perfect accent but if they're dark they are second class citizen. i know lots of talented students, wasting their time in menal jobs to pay over rated tution. I also know some talented people who finished their studies and prolonging their stay by joining classes they are not intested of. At least Aus or canada sound promising to immigrants. They seem to treat students with respect and provide opportunities. In usa what are you going to do, wait for 65,ooo h1b cap, just so you can sit in the back log and get your green card in 7 years. given that, you won't be laid off till then and the company is liberal enough to sponsor you.. haha....

raidai, i don't know about you but a lot of people have gotten out. will get out and in process of getting out. AFter all, slow like tortoise immigration system, unequal treatment at colleges and work place and rants and tortures in daily life for being dark skin - how long can you bare. if there is a better place in the world for immigrants like us and if they treat us better than why not explore.

Well! Whoever said there is no racism in Australia, please think twice. I lived there for some time and I was even called curry-munching south asian dog! once. I don;t know how things are in the US but I think that racism exists everywhere and it wont go away because there are always going to be assholes. I mean if you decide to live in their country, of course they are not going to like it because they are going to think that you are taking away their jobs and things like that. This might not be the case among educated people. Look at foreign tourists back home. They are called kuires and khaires... And seriously think to yourself, how many of you have never used the word "dhoti", "musalte"? So I think racism exists everywhere and as long as it doesn't affect your career too much, does it really matter? will it matter if they don;t smile at you? I don't think your life is going to change in any way with what I lilke to call "subtle racism". This is why Nepal is the best place to live because you belong there and it is your own. So it is all about personal choice. I don't think there is any country in the world without racism.

Amazing... congratulations for bagging AusAid scholarship . i just wanted to let you know that you are not eligible to apply for PR in Australia at least for two years after finishing your degree. As per ausaid rule you have to come back to nepal and work for two years then only you are eligible. I am sure you know it coz its there in the booklet you are given after getting the scholarship. As per my experiance....i had a great time in Australia. Melbourne Uni's faculty are great, very friendly people. I am sure you'll love it. For work, go directly to international student office or you can contact Ausaid laison officer. Contact them as soon as possible . you'll have better chances to get work within Uni. If you get a good grade and have good repo with Prof. you can get to tutor undergrad student...pay is great and you 'll have a heck of a experience. when i was in Uni Melb there were almost 22 nepali student most of them had Ausaid scholarship...some had worldbank scholarship......and we had a great time. Don't worry about friends you'll have plenty of and aussie people are really interested in different culture and tradition. AND chicks are hot ....i almost changed into lesbian ;0P

Good public transport available . . . trains and buses and light rails. Driving is not that necessary. Normally if you share your accomodation with one or two more guys/gals it can come upto 60 - 65AU$ a week. For fooding you'll need about 40 a week. Telephone, mobile, electricity and gas will cost you upto 50$ a month. Other major inevitable expenses are on travel. Depending on the distance from your home to work and Uni, it can cost upto 40 $ a week. Add another 25$ a week on miscellaneous. Thats it. You can survive on around 700$ a month. I'm in Sydney but above mentioned "roughly - estimated" costs are for Melbourne. Good Luck brother

mimangsu, Thank you for your reply and suggesting some early tips. Well as I have known an AUSAID need to return to Asia-Pacific region, not necessarily Nepal. Did you get the AusAId scholarship as well? I will be going to victoria University. What is the average pay per hour in university? It is said that we can make good money during scholarship tenure, is that right? I mean since AusAID pays everything, the one we earn can be saved fully. Is that right logic? Can you please inform what is average pay per hour and if I am not mistaken we can work 20/hrs per week right?
