USA to withdraw from Nepal if Maoists join interim govt

Kathmandu, 26 June: The United States, which has put Maoists on its terrorist list, has decided its presence Nepal will not remain if a decision to include Maoists in an interim government is implemented, Sahghu reports.

According to diplomatic sources, USA is thinking of closing its embassy and ending activities if Maoists are included in the government without the lifting of the US terrorist tag on rebels.

USA will suspend all help and NGOs affilitated with the USA will also be closed down.

USA has adopted a policy of forcing Maoists to surrender their weapons through pressures from friendly countries.

British Ambassador Keith George Bloomfield, before returning home, recently said if Maoists join the government without surrendering weapons, western countries will not be satisfied, reflecting US policy.

Washington hasn't taken positively the silence of the Nepal Government which didn't inform USA of the summit [SPA, Maoist] and the eight-point agreement.

The diplomatic community is seriously following latest developments in Nepal closely.

US Ambassador James F. Moriarty returned to Kathmandu 20 June after a 10-day consultation in Washington.

According to diplomatic sources, Moriarty he will make a policy statement on 28 June.

Maoist Chairman Prachanda and his deputy Baburam Bhattarai returned to Kathmandu Sunday and immediately held discussions with leaders of the ruling alliance following to same the eight-point agreement which has come under fire.

Alliance leaders said the agreement was inked without prior consultations and demanded changes.

Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala, undergoing medical treatment in Bangkok, is expected to return Tuesday.
