I think it's a great idea. But the limit of $50-100 slightly disappoints me because giving money is not just about willingness, it's also about ability. Of course, those who afford to give $100 should give $100 and not $5, but when you set a limit, it stops people who want to contribute, say $25, but don't really afford to meet the $50 limit (let's face it, $50 is seven hours salary for many college students). Such small contributions can actually go a long way.

I do understand though that when people make small contributions, administrative cost might be a big share of the total contribution (and especially San dai's time another issue). Having said that, once the banner appears here in Sajha, I will be making my own modest contribution (if it's allowed); irrespective of whether the limit is there or not, or whether or not I am able to support, my moral support will remain.

Out of almost 400 visits, only 4 of us have agreed in principal that this can happen. This in itself is not a very good sign. May be this should be discussed upon in a much broader scale. I was very sensitive about this when I first read about the desperate need of the MRI machine in Bir Hospital some 3 years ago while in Nepal. I heard there was Nepali senior doctor lobbying for the same cause.

Anyways, more friends will hopefully take part in the discussion. We will analyse every factors regarding the implementation of the decision if it is made. First, lot more people should be willing to support this venture. Herau, how friends respond to this. Yes, we can't help all the ones in need in Nepal but even if we can help just one needy person, is not that better than doing nothing or just running our mouth or the fingers on keyboard complaining?

Let's do something for these people in the picture or the MRI or whatever. I hope San steps in to faciliatate the process as he has done in the past. I am ready to help whatever I can. And let's not demand the donation or the amount...just an appeal would do.

Of them, a dozen showed some willingness to help. And only three offered to give hundred dollars from their pocket plus other possible supports (tes madhya ekjana ta mai bhae). BTW I was not seeking help for myself guys. He he he . I am a fool. Fool to expect such a big favour from you guys.

When a student working maximum 20 hours a week purposed to donate 100 dollars once and for all, sab ko sato gayo. Heh he hehe. Anyways guys, got so angry of myself. Sorry for all this. Infact, I saw western nations collecting millions of dollars in a sigle day for Tsunami aid. I saw a single person donating a months salary for some Indonesian or Srilankan victims. I saw the Disaster Emergency Relief hotline jammed by calls of people willing to donate. But here I was thinking about a years time, not days or weeks. These people have heart for others, so their countries are developed. We have heart for ourselves, so we are developed but not our country. Gharjagga kinne paisa kaati kaati MRI machine lai 100 dollars donate garchha kasaile. Wahiyat.
As for me, my parents live in a small house in my village. My brother studies in a government campus in Kathmandu. All of them plus me and my tution fees are supported by my earnings. But if somebody asks for a voluntary donation for installing a MRI in Bir Hospital or anything alike, I will give 500(if needed even 1000) dollars guys. I think I understand your sentiment and respect that. However, an expection- by definition-is nothing but hope albeit a strong one. No matter how strong, hope is just that-not reality. If you back off from your conviction just because not many people line up by you to sing jindabad to your hope then I doubt about your conviction.

If you can donate $1000.00, that is good. I hope you do that. But please don't expect that from everyone. People have restrictions and reservations regarding their ability.

Once again, I recognize your honest dedication to a noble cause and hope you will stand by it. I will not be able to donate thousand or even hundred of dollars for the said cause but will stand by you and many others contributing whatever I can.

Also, please give some rest to those "he he hes..". In my opinion those he hes are not solidifying your position.

I saw those couple in Thamel after she had her bandage and he was carrying he reverywhere but then i do not think Nepali people back home also are so heartless. When they see a sight like that or when they read about a sad and tragic story, they do help. There was many instances where because of an article in Kantipur, a large sum was donated in the Kantipur for the treatment for the person.

I think the normal people are always helping out, that is there in our nature and because of the current conflict, we have becaome little sensible towards others. I htink the man in the picture has already completed the treatment of his wife and gone as this was some time back.

I wish there is some kind of private fund somewhere for all this. I cannot trust any donor agency though for that coz their overhead cost will eat up all the money. We need people with voluntary intensions to do these things.

Hoping that the prsent conflict in our country will at least bring us close together as a nepali without any boundaries of caste, social status and religion. and we would continue to feel for true love and concern of our people.

I will also donate $100 but the whole amount should go for the purchase of the machine. I am not giving becasue i have the money but because i feel the need is greater there. Thanks newuser, please proceed

Felt like stopping to post anymore. But wanted to reply to Deep Bro (thanks for dropping your kind words for my hope)

I was not expecting to line up people for singing Jindabad for my hope. I hate that word called jindabad. I was trying to figure out how a Nepali reacts to some Nepali purpose. I didn't want to head a charity organization. I was expecting like,' if we all work together yes we can do this thing. Newuser ji let's plan on how to do it now' . But I got like' well newuser, you thought of a good idea, I can give you few dollars and best of luck'. If people can't say 'we' , can a single person do any thing?
I am a little bit more hopeful person and I hoped that if a banner ' donate for installation of a public MRI unit in Nepal ' ran in sajha.com, nepalnews.com, kantipuronline.com, nepalipost.com etc etc for 1 year and one Nepali residing abroad donated a total of 50 to 100 dollar spanning that period + a good publicity campaign by a group of youths amongst us, I thought enough money could be collected. He he he does make a sense. Talking big and stepping back when action is required. Hehe he nabhane k bhanne ta? Always complaining against everybody in Nepal and being reluctant to work together when needed is the biggest farce of the drained brains of Nepal.
Anyways, my hope is as strong as it was when I started the thread. Once, 50 crosses the number of people who agree my idea, we will decide a definitive plan. Thanks for your offer and keep on suggesting us pls.

This can only be accomplished through a team of committed people who are willing to do some person to person fund raiser. If you are thinking of putting a banner on websites and hoping people will donate, you can forget about it because people will conveniently ignore it. In my opinion the best way to go about doing it would be the following:

1. Get hold of a Non Profit Org that is willing to support your cause. HelpNepal.Org is an option.
2. Get hold of a team of volunteer in each city, who are willing to do the legwork. As a start, they can pay visits to Nepali Parties like Dashai Party or New Years Party, and collect the donations individually.
3. Put banners on websites as well for the few who will donate.

No. 2 above is not going to be liked by a lot of people because it is pretty aggressive fund raising, but if you're committed to your cause, you have to do this.
