I quit I'm movin' on
Why am I talking about this song? No No I am not the
kind who will be singing songs after a break up. That is probably too
mainstream for me. I am the kind who will wake up in the morning and ask, HEY
where is the party tonight?
LOL! Jokes apart. What did I quit and why! My
quitting has nothing to do with Love, Cheating or Break Up. But wait it might
not be with a guy or a guy….but it can be a love or an attachment with a thing,
right? So I QUIT. I quit smoking!!
No I am not a chronic chain smoker.I am not a
regular smoker. I am like most of you, when I drink I have this huge craving
for a puff and that puff goes to two and then two ciggies and two more and then
it goes on and on. And next day you will find a friend you love to talk to. You
share coffee and then he will ask you to share a smoke and you say OK and you
have one more there.
And that continues…. Till the time you realize that
you should quit. We are literate fools aren’t we? We know it will harm our
system, we might die of cancer and still we smoke. Every packet has this stupid
horrifying cancer throat on the cover and we don’t even give a shit about it. I
never did. I don’t think if given a chance I would in the future (too much
confession?)
SO one day a gay friend of mine and I were sitting
in this coffee shop’s smoking zone, talking about life and work. He told me
this one thing that struck me so hard. The exact words,“ Darhling, Do you know
when you speak to me, I feel so good.” He flips his hand from one side to
another. “You have always inspired me with my work. Whenever I am in trouble I
look for you for advice and it has always worked for me. I am blessed to have a
friend like you. I am sure a lot of people had told you this but let me say it
from my side, you are very influential to a lot of us.” He crushes the ciggie
butt.
No he didn’t say a word about quitting. It was when
I was walking back home, I recalled his words. If I am so influential to ten
people, if they look towards me for inspiration, I should not do anything wrong
and something I know is wrong. The first thing that came into my mind was
smoking LOL. Yes always felt guilty smoking the cigarettes. I guess its time I
quit.
Anyway, “quitting is the easiest job, I do that many
times.” This used to be one of my punch lines with friends. Not anymore. I
think it is definitely hard to quit bad things in life but I will not quit on
the fact that I am quitting it. One day at a time baby One day at a time......
