When i was a kid (or when i was in Nepal), i used to believe in God. I did however have reservations on religion but i still believed in God. Its been a year in US now and having met people from other cultures, the existence of a supreme being doesnt make sense anymore.
I think that believeing in GOd instills in a person faith, confidence and positivity to get through good times and be appreciative of the bad ones. I want my children to have these qualities so i dont want to tell them that GOd doesnt exist. Moreover, i cant imagine what my parents/relatives will make of me when i talk to them about this. It isnt going to be pretty.
It does give me great discomfort to think about all this. I must admit i feel less confident and more pessimistic these days. I want to believe in God but my logic doesnt give in anymore. In fact, i get irritated when i hear things like "God COMMANDED you to.." "GOd will PUNISH you if..", "We are SERVANTS in from of Him" "(on Christianity): "Jesus died on the cross for you"(THere are many who have made a similar magnitude of sacrifice).
I think that God and religion are ancient theories that havent been discarded yet. And it hasnt due to the fear in people of what might happen if they didnt. One of my teachers once said "if there is no god and you believe in god, there is no harm but if there is god and you dont believe in god, there is harm". i feel this and cultural and social stigmas lead people to be religious and not question their beliefs.
I wanna know what you guys make of this.

But Rethink,
That is why I elected you as my gurudev. Your job is to criticize every fault you see in me. You are doing your job excellently, by the way. Naturally, being very spiritually enlightened yourself, gurudev, I am already assuming that you criticise your ownself far more than you criticise me. But that goes without saying, doesn't it, your holyness?
You are far more compassionate on others than you are to yourself.

@Rethink, You seem to have a lot of faith in chance. So your God must be a dice. Like Boudhanath has many faces, which face of the dice do you worship? Or...is that also up to chance? LOL. So you worship randomness?
How randomly do you worship randomness? Or is that random too? LOL. It sounds like your philosophy is as stable as you are.

Budmash
You don't have to believe in probability, you toss a coin and when it lands you are face to face with probability. There's nothing to believe but to understand the reality of probability.
You don't worship randomness you simply acknowledge it.
Randomness may sound like a philosophy to you but it's just another fact of life.

LOL @ Rethink. That is really funny because I know someone else just like you who makes random comments from all sides of his mouth. His comments, stance, philosophy and ideas change as randomly as yours do. Have you heard of him?
Tell me Rethink, did you teach him your philosophy? He seems to practice your philosophy very well. Nepal thanks you for your contribution.

Budmash you are surely talking out of your a$$ now.
Where have I changed my stance, philosophy as you have indicated? I stand firm on my beliefs.
Enlighten me how or when I changed my stance then we can talk. Otherwise i'm not gonna bother arguing with a moron.

LOL@Rethink. Why so angry, oh enlightened one? Your random outburst of anger does not suit your philosophy.
Oh I get it. You only use your philosophy to defeat others arguments, without any intention of living it? Hmmm....that sounds like exactly what Prachanda did. Interesting.

"LOL@Rethink. Why so angry, oh enlightened one? Your random outburst of anger does not suit your philosophy. "
LOL Budmash you got it all wrong AGAIN!
I have never said I am enlightened. You create your own references and you accuse others of being what you think they are! Haha how convenient is that? Remember anything you do for your own convenience without considering the truth is called escapism :)
If I claim someone is talking out of their ass then that does not mean I am angry, I am only observing the reality of someone creating stuff up. (you can still defend your statement by showing where I have changed by stance or philosophy).
And when I say I am not gonna argue with a moron that is a factual statement, not anger.
You need to start learning the definition of anger and start defending your statements.
Let's start by defending your statement otherwise like I said I don't want to discuss with a moron

Chaurey you are right. Budmash needs to stick to the topic here. Perhaps he's reading my other threads to find an evidence where I changed my stance somewhere.
Well, if and when he finds something to validate his unwarranted and false statement, he should open a new thread and we can discuss about my changing stances and philosophies there.

Along with Prachanda, it seems that Rethink has other disciples also. Chaurey being one of his chamchas. The guru is looking for backup to Chaurey. And considering that Chaurey doesn't have a philosophy of his own, he is ready to bark from one tree to another tree.
I am on topic. The topic is God and religion. Rethink's god is a dice. And the poor guy can't decide on which face of the dice to worship because the decision is too random for him. Becharra. The poor guy couldn't figure out the face of a dice if it stared at him right in the face.
But that's ok, I am enjoying his comments. What else can you expect from someone whose philosophy comes out as randomly as diarrhea does?
I'm looking forward to more of his verbal diarrhea in his posts to come. LOL. Random outbursts of verbal meaningless diarrhea. LOL.

Budmash
I can't expect any proofs for your statements or beliefs. Feel free to say anything you like and laugh your ass off coz I see you are good at that.
Just like your blind belief in god, you probably believe that I made statements where I have changed my stances.
LOLs on you partner.
As far as backups go, I am steadfast in my belief on reality so I don't need any backup. Whereas you have a big backup of God so consider yourself a blessed moron
On a serious note, if you want to inflate your ego by arguing with me with non-sensible accusation, start a new thread and leave this discussion for relevant responses.

Haha desperate times calls for desperate measures.
Picking out Nepali Ukhaan to persuade the crowd is a tactic used by your Maoist gurus.
Unfortunately in my world of reality, there is no need for Guru and Chela, it's all about understanding and acknowledgement of the truth.
By the way, now that you have shown that you cannot support your own statements and accusations, let me tell you that there is a huge difference between understanding what 'randomness' is and making 'random' statements.
It's okay to be uncertain and ignorant about the world around you. I won't hold that against you. The most honorable thing for you to do is stop this nonsense, and gather any pride you have left and stop saying things you can't comprehend.

evidently he thinks he holds the keys to "narak" and decides who should go there...as judging by his dumb Hindi remark. so now tell me where is this place called "narak" can you provide an example of someone who has been there and come back?

@homeyji: You said you are a fool. Yes you are a fool for believing that you could discuss philosophy or spirituality with idiots like these two. Your problem is that you have no discrimination amongst people. Not everybody can handle this subject matter, you moron. Why would you ever discuss such a sensitive subject in an open forum with no rules?
You are a jackass for being so naive!

"Why would you ever discuss such a sensitive subject in an open forum with no rules?"
Yep. Freedom of thoughts and expression must be a foreign concept for you two religious fanatics/fundamendalists. You need to find a Closed Forum with the rule of saying "yes my lord" to anything being written by any jackass.
